Kuramochi Kai is the cousin of the Cheetah, Kuramochi Yoichi. Kai lives in Tokyo, while Yoichi goes to school in Chiba Prefecture. Kai and Narumiya Mei played on the same little league team. Because of growing pains, Kai couldn't pitch much and was Mei's backup throughout their little league years. The two were actually very good friends, and Mei even invited Kai to join Inashiro with him. But on the one hand, Kai really didn't want to keep being a backup, especially since the growing pains were already in the past. On the other hand, his cousin had been invited to Seido, and Kai had to look after him.
