"Friends to lovers"
"Unrequited love comes true" "Bittersweet romance"
Eleven years after graduating from high school, their former classmates held a reunion.
In the private dining room, someone asked Nan Yan, "Are you and Pei Qingyi still friends?"
Nan Yan paused, then replied, "No."
Her classmates took the answer in stride.
Nan Yan and Pei Qingyi had been worlds apart since high school. Nan Yan was quiet and reserved, with little to show for herself beyond her grades. Pei Qingyi, heiress to a wealthy family, had always been the center of attention.
Even in a loose school uniform, she was dazzlingly beautiful, the very picture of a glamorous rich girl, bold and carefree. The love letters she threw away could have filled several trash cans.
As their classmates had expected, their friendship faded after they went to college, and the two hadn't been in touch for years. Everyone assumed Nan Yan was the one who'd been left behind.
Halfway through the dinner, Pei Qingyi, now a celebrated actress, arrived straight from the set.
She wore a fitted red dress, her skin fair as snow, her hair dark as night, and her peach-blossom eyes sparkling. Every glance and gesture was captivating. She was so beautiful it was hard to look at her.
Her former classmates eagerly made room for her at the table, but she walked straight over to Nan Yan. The radiant beauty wrapped her arms around Nan Yan's waist and, like a cat, shamelessly cuddled up to her, oblivious to everyone else. Her eyes sparkled. "Honey, I'm so tired today. A kiss is the only cure."
They weren't friends. They were lovers.
