"Shh, whatever you do, don't look back." The man gave a low laugh and tightened his grip, drawing her into his arms in an embrace that was almost a hug. "After all..."

He raised his head and glanced toward the pavilion across the pond, meeting the man's cold gaze head-on. "Your fiancé is watching from behind you."

World Two: In a fantasy cultivation redemption novel, Ning Yu is the younger sister of the aloof male lead. Though adopted by the Ning family, she covets her eldest brother. Ambitious and scheming, she has him imprisoned to seize power.

At the foot of the grand hall, a man lay sprawled on the floor in a wretched state, his disheveled black hair obscuring his expression.

The hem of an ornate dress swept over the jade steps and stopped before him. Ning Yu lightly lifted his chin with the tip of her shoe.

"Second Young Master Wei," she said softly, "can we have a proper talk now?"

"Heh." The man suddenly seized the toe of her shoe and slowly raised his head. His cool, almost aloof brows lifted slightly. Even though he was at her mercy, his innate arrogance remained undimmed. "Young Master Ning..."

He stroked the leather of her shoe, his slow, gentle movements suggesting an ambiguous intimacy. "Does your brother know this side of you?"

As he spoke, a man dressed in white slowly emerged from behind the hall. His hands were still bound in chains. His cool, detached gaze swept over them before settling on her.

"What is it?" he asked coolly. "Is this another one of the people you've fallen for?"

The System, witnessing all this: "..."

Male lead, supporting male lead, what are you doing?

"They always say I have my reasons for doing this," Ning Yu said, looking back at it innocently. "What am I supposed to do about that?"
