Seven years after transmigrating, Yan Zhao was sent by his parents to the hottest variety show of the moment, Superpowered Babies Save the World.
Not parents raising kids, and not kids raising parents. This was a show with kids only.
He felt nothing, and was even a little relieved, as if to say, "The main plot is finally here."
Waking up to find he'd become the son of a novel's male protagonist seemed fine, right?
But if that novel was a pure shonen manga, and its protagonist had only just reached adulthood by the end, that was a horror story.
Even more horrifying, in the strictest sense, this shonen manga protagonist was Yan Zhao's "mother," while his other father was the male protagonist of an earlier work by the same author, set in the same universe but with no connection to the plot.
Yan Zhao: I don't know whether I should be shocked that you two met, or grieve that I missed dozens of episodes.
After being forced to watch seven years of epilogues, Yan Zhao felt he'd developed the mental fortitude to stay calm even if Mount Tai collapsed in front of him.
Then he met the other kids who would be appearing on the show with him.
The mixed-race kid secretly carrying knives had a pair of dark purple eyes.
Yan Zhao: I know you. Your dad is a legendary investigator who'll venture into any death zone, and your other dad is a lovelorn eldritch being, an evil god your dad dug out of a grave.
The little scholar who never went anywhere without pen and paper pulled out a homemade communicator.
Yan Zhao: I know you too. Your dad is an interstellar artificial intelligence reborn in the modern world and given a human body, while your other dad is a practical inventor who'll do anything to advance technology.
By the way, as the son of two generations of saviors, Yan Zhao inherited a family superpower based on the power of belief, though he rarely used it.
Yan Zhao: So what's the point of this variety show? Are we going to destroy the world for the audience?
A warning before reading, to keep you from dying of shock:
1. The male protagonist has no romantic pairing. There's not much about his parents' romance. Any romances in the background are all between men, and are described mostly through the kids' humorous comments.
2. The setting involves male-male childbirth, though none of the children were born in the usual way.
3. A fantastical mash-up full of supernatural things, but on the surface it's still an ordinary modern city. It's normal for anything and everything to show up.
4. There are lots of comments on screen, which may include bloodthirsty viewers, history scholars, passing omniscient beings, and other unusual types.
5. Don't worry that the main characters will get carried away and really destroy the world. Someone will clean up after them.
Also: The inspiration came from the Xiaohongshu account Good Bad Good Bad, but my Xiaohongshu account was banned, so I can't notify them. If anyone sees this, please let them know in the comments. Thanks so much.
Theme: This messed-up world is actually running pretty well.
