At six, the precocious "little demon king" Bai Zhuo was lounging in his garden, getting into mischief.
He had no idea what his future would bring.
When Bai Zhuo was seven, a new neighbor moved in next door.
And just like that, he somehow wound up with a childhood friend, Qin Lian.
In young Bai Zhuo's eyes, his little friend was like a kitten: proud and rather "well-behaved."
Later, Bai Zhuo paid dearly for assuming Qin Lian was "well-behaved."
But the nickname "Kitten" stuck.
One ordinary afternoon,
Bai Zhuo: Kitten, do you think we'll still be together when we're grown up?
His kitten usually didn't answer questions like that. He might get a beating or a sharp retort instead.
Qin Lian: Who are you calling Kitten? You mutt.
So childish.
At seventeen, they started high school together in the science track.
Now that Bai Zhuo understood his own feelings, he brought Qin Lian a flower from his family's flower shop every day, and teased him:
"Kitten, you can give this flower to the person you have a crush on."
Qin Lian usually accepted the flower and told him to get lost.
After school, they walked home together. On the pebbled path they had to take, they would come across a little tabby cat.
Every time, Bai Zhuo would crouch down to pet it, murmuring, "Come here, kitty. Let big brother pet you."
Qin Lian would take a can of cat food out of his schoolbag, put it in front of the tabby, and watch it eat with gusto.
Sometimes Bai Zhuo would say, "Kitty, you look a lot like Qin Lian."
After that, Qin Lian would drag him home by the ear.
Bai Zhuo: Ow, ow, ow! Kitten, go easy! That hurts!
His love for him will never fade.
PS: Both protagonists are pretty clueless about romance, so the story will progress very slowly. Neither character is based on a real person. Please enjoy the story within its own circle, everyone (heart).
