“I once dreamed of riding into battle in armor, leading troops to war. But people told me all I could do was support my husband and raise children, spending my days embroidering in the garden.”
“I wanted to be a carefree wanderer in the martial world, but in the end I could only be trapped behind palace walls, staring at a tiny, square patch of sky.”
“I refuse to accept this.”
Chen Yan, eldest daughter of the Marquis of Wuning, is an oddity among noble young ladies and a favorite topic of gossip among aristocratic women over tea.
Who could have imagined that when the political situation changed overnight, the former freak would become a noblewoman in charge of the imperial harem?
Now everyone else gets to look at her with envy.
Only Chen Yan knows that she hasn't soared to the heavens. She's become a caged bird shackled in chains.
Lin Tiaotiao, daughter of the prefect of Taizhou, is gentle, clever, and graceful. For over a decade, she has been the model of an “accomplished young lady.”
No one knows that beneath her dignified facade lies a yearning to defy convention.
She secretly gazes up at the unconventional moon, until thick clouds cover it and its light can no longer be seen.
So she decides to follow the moon.
[Content warnings]
1. The story takes place in the imperial harem. The emperor is a fairly unimportant supporting character, and there will basically be no interactions between him and the two female leads. But the story also won't explicitly say things like “the emperor is useless.” Readers can interpret it however they like.
2. This was my first attempt at writing, so there are many shortcomings.
3. All character actions are based on the characterizations I've set up. If anyone acts out of character, it's because of my lack of skill. Comments are welcome. You can criticize the characters or say my writing is bad, but please don't attack me personally.
4. They take turns being on top!!!
