The most outrageous thing Su Yici ever did was sleep with her sworn enemy, Sheng Ziyang.
When they came to their senses, they both sprang away as fast as they could, afraid to even brush against each other. They were of one mind about what had happened: neither of them needed to take responsibility for the other. They would just pretend it never happened and go right back to never speaking to each other again.
But they never imagined the secret would get out, let alone reach both sets of parents.
The elders of both families immediately decided the two should get married. It would make for an excellent alliance between their families.
Neither of them would give in. They stubbornly swore they would ruin the wedding, and over the phone, they said in unison:
“Whoever gets married is the loser!”
Then, on the day of the wedding, a Koenigsegg and a Lamborghini came face-to-face outside the Civil Affairs Bureau.
With their bright red marriage certificates in hand, neither of them could believe things had turned out this way. After leaving the Bureau, they each glanced at their own certificate, then looked at each other at the exact same time.
The next second:
“Whoever gets divorced is the loser!”
“Whoever gets divorced is the loser!”
Much later, they really did get to the point of divorce.
After a huge fight, Su Yici tossed a divorce agreement at Sheng Ziyang and told him to sign it immediately, so they could end their inexplicable marriage.
Looking at the divorce agreement that had been drawn up at some unknown time, Sheng Ziyang felt his rebellious streak suddenly flare up. He looked at Su Yici with a defiant expression and revealed a shocking secret:
“Inexplicable? Let me tell you, I wasn’t drunk at all that night.”
Su Yici froze for a moment. Meeting Sheng Ziyang’s gaze, she saw the competitive glint in his eyes and refused to back down.
“Then let me tell you something too. I wasn’t drunk either.”
The first night they slept in separate rooms.
Sheng Ziyang tossed and turned until dawn. The search bar on his phone read: What are the odds of sworn enemies ending up in bed together?
Su Yici stared at the ceiling all night, her mind making precise calculations: When sworn enemies sleep together, is it because of impulse, or because they like each other?

At twenty-six, Zhu Shian impulsively married Fu Yannian, the head of a top-tier conglomerate.
He was extraordinarily capable and came from an impressive background. He married only to appease the public and their elders, not for love.
Zhu Shian knew this perfectly well. In public, she played along wholeheartedly, putting on a show of marital bliss. At home, she kept the peace and did her best to avoid potential conflict.
Their days passed without incident, and Zhu Shian was quite satisfied.
But one day, after drinking too much, she slowly woke up in bed to find a man sitting upright on the sofa, looking as if he had come to collect a debt.
“Last night,” he said, pointing at his lips, “you kissed me against my will.”
!
Zhu Shian was so startled she nearly rolled out of bed.
A kiss was just a kiss. Zhu Shian didn’t think it was a big deal. They were legally married, after all. What was one kiss between them?
She reassured herself and carried on as usual, but gradually, she realized Fu Yannian was acting strangely.
For instance, he no longer bothered to hide when he changed clothes, casually showing off his beautiful muscles. And he kept bending down to talk to her, then asking:
“Do you mean you want me to carry you?”
Zhu Shian couldn’t make sense of him. At last, during a department dinner, when Fu Yannian called to hurry her home, she couldn’t take it anymore and asked, “It’s only nine. Why do you insist on making me come home?”
There was a three-second silence on the other end of the phone. Then Fu Yannian replied in a perfectly serious voice:
“Isn’t it only natural for newlyweds to build a connection?”
Zhu Shian never imagined that their talks about building a connection would eventually veer out of control.
One night, she gently pushed Fu Yannian away and said shyly, “Can we stop after one time? You’re too big. You’re pressing on me, and it hurts a little.”
Fu Yannian chuckled softly and rubbed the tip of her nose with his. “What if we sit up, then? How does that sound?”
SC, HE.
