The Federation was defeated. In accordance with the treaty, it sent its chief Guide, Kano, to the Empire in exchange for peace.
After five years of humiliation, Kano was left broken in body and mind.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back on the eve of applying to military academy. In silence, Kano tore up his application and moved to the desolate planet F78 overnight. He never wanted to know those people again.
The F78 system was publicly declared to have been abandoned for years, but in truth, a group of wandering Sentinels had taken it over and built it up. The day Kano arrived, the Sentinels' spirit animals all came out in force, hiding in corners to watch him.
Kano noticed that his bedding was always warm, as if he were lying on some kind of animal.
