A demon's greatest dream is to become an immortal. And Ming Zheng is a demon with an immortal's bones, to boot. But his rabbit can't become an immortal, so does that mean he won't become one either? Yet the immortal's words are so tempting: "Spend three hundred years cultivating here. See whether anything happens to the person you love in the human world. How about it?" Truthfully, he wants to know too: does his rabbit love him, and if so, how deeply? So he ascends to heaven. But that rabbit of his is so foolish that it breaks Ming Zheng's heart. So he gives up on becoming an immortal. Being a cook is just fine; growing carrots and shopping for groceries is good enough.
