Recently, Shen Ying has been having the same dream. On the first day of high school, she meets a boy she's never seen before. He rides his bike into her by accident, then helps her up and repeatedly apologizes. “Sorry, are you okay?”
That one accident leads her to discover the only light in her life.

After waking up, Shen Ying becomes increasingly convinced that the dream was real. As if to confirm her suspicion, on the first day of school she really does meet the boy from her dream. Just like in the dream, he rides his bike into Shen Ying. When he speaks, his words are exactly the same as in her dream: “Sorry, are you okay?” Afterwards, the boy gives her a piece of Halls mint candy, marking the beginning of their acquaintance.
This makes Shen Ying feel that dreams don't always come true in reverse.
From that day on, Xie Yiwei offers Shen Ying a helping hand whenever she needs one, calling it “compensation.” He appears from nowhere, like a deity, and gives the girl a promise that makes her feel safe:
“No matter what happens from now on, just call me, deskmate. Your deskmate will always have your back.”
