When Nair struggled to open his eyes, he was locked in an extremely cramped cage with a group of other people. While customers selected the other slaves, Nair put his hands behind his back and began trying to pick the cage's lock.

With only a little while left before sunset, the bustling crowd suddenly fell silent. A carriage whose wheels sounded different from all the others slowly rolled toward them from the far end of the road. Nair couldn't help looking up, eager to see what sort of person could command such a grand procession.

Beneath the glow of the setting sun, a magnificent, gilded carriage drawn by four fine horses rolled forward. The normally broad, bustling street seemed to shrink around it.

It was the first time Nair had ever seen such a luxurious carriage, and he couldn't help looking twice. He saw the carriage curtains flutter in the wind, revealing a glimpse of dark gold. Nair hurriedly lowered his head and quietly hid himself among the slaves.

But those few glances were what brought him trouble later.

"Look up." At the words, Nair slowly raised his eyes and, as expected, met a pair of champagne-colored eyes.

He had already picked the lock and was ready to escape that night, but the very next moment, the master, dressed in lavish finery and standing against the light, pressed a branding iron to his tattoo.

After a banquet, the butler summoned Nair to the duke's bedroom. When he opened the door, the dim light inside made him feel that something was wrong.

"...Serve me," the duke said in a remarkably low voice.

"I'll give you the finest reward."
