For that, he was willing to seek out the terrifying being who lived beneath the sea, the wizard Wu Yun, and trade his enchanting voice for a pair of human legs.

"Great Wizard, I am willing to trade my voice with you for a pair of human legs that will let me walk," the little mermaid prayed earnestly and devoutly from his knees.

"Certainly."

Before the little mermaid could even feel happy, he heard the wizard add,

"But you'll have to trade yourself."

The little mermaid's face turned pale with fright, and he fled in a panic.

As soon as he reached the doorway, countless tentacles lunged at him.

He struggled with all his might, but to no avail. All he could do was let the tentacles drag him into endless darkness.

The stone cottage's door was shut tight. On the sandy ground not far away, a deep, heavy gouge remained.
