Synopsis
Summer's lingering warmth remained. Sunlight filtered through gaps in the leaves, scattering patches of light across the ground, but the four of them couldn't bring themselves to care.
Ci had been missing for almost a week.
That strange letter had gotten one thing right.
---Like a reflection of flowers on water, it vanished in an instant, leaving everything in pieces.
---Peace was already hanging by a thread...
Without Ci, were the Five Permanent Members still the Five Permanent Members?
A crystalwing butterfly escaped through a crack and stubbornly flew toward the cold.
The challenger had taken their seat.
At last, the game of chess began...

The instances will follow the timeline of modern history, as closely as possible... Their settings are based on some notable events. Each instance is five percent based on reality and ninety-five percent imagination, so many things will differ from what really happened. Even when I later mention the real-life event that inspired the story, there will still be plenty of differences. I really am just making things up.
Instance 1: "Pillage" (the burning of the Old Summer Palace...)
Instance 2: "The Day of Parting" (the Nanjing Massacre...)
Instance 3: "The Final Flight" (the Chongqing bombing...)
Instance 4: "Charity Event" (Unit 731)
Instance 5: "Life, Sickness, and Death" (comfort women...)
Instance 6: "A Glorious Age"
(If anyone submits an instance while I'm updating, please try to avoid ones involving the Five Nations. They're going to be challenging instances, after all. What if the real-world events cause them to get thrown in jail? Just kidding. If an idea fits the overall direction of the story, I may consider adding it.)
My writing is sometimes good and sometimes bad, but overall it's decent (I'm a literature enthusiast). If you don't enjoy it, please stop reading. You don't need to tell yourself it'll get better later. The writing in the later chapters will be like it is at the beginning.
Since this story is based on some real events, including hardships suffered by China, and is a sensitive topic, I don't recommend it to anyone who can't accept country personifications and the like. I'm very patriotic, and the whole story promotes patriotism and pacifism. Please don't attack me for either of those things, or I really will sue you.
You can share your opinions, thoughts, and questions about my writing, whether positive or negative, but please don't attack or insult me or other readers. And don't make any vile comments that could harm, well, you know what I mean. This is a very serious matter.
In short, a thousand readers will see a thousand different Hamlets.
I won't force anyone to read my story, and I won't demand that anyone praise it.
Please be civil when you comment and when you read. Thanks!
