(The new novel The Puppet Emperor's Bedside Powerbroker opens on September 9, 2025. It's a deliciously wild love-hate romance. Come and give it a try!)
The greatest tragedy of his life was becoming a strategist in bed...
A workhorse of an editor diligently revised scripts until he died suddenly and transmigrated into the angsty novel script he'd been editing. He didn't become some all-knowing, spoiler-spouting big shot. Instead, he ended up as the lowest-ranking, earliest-to-die, most gruesomely killed-off cannon-fodder strategist.
To stay alive, Su Wen pored over the script.
[Script] The male lead pressed a sharp sword to his throat. "It's time to settle the score for the deaths of my entire family, isn't it?"
Su Wen felt a chill at his neck and shook his head as he crossed the male lead off the list.
[Script] The second male lead hid a smile behind his folding fan. "I need one more stepping stone on my path to the throne. Let me borrow your head."
Su Wen broke into a cold sweat and tremblingly crossed the second male lead off the list.
[Script] Tears welled in the third male lead's eyes. "Brother Su, please don't kill me. I'm scared..."
Innocent! Pure! A little lamb!
Su Wen slapped his thigh. You're the one!
For the next eight years, Su Wen kept putting his workhorse nature to good use.
He kept his distance from the male lead, and they left each other alone.
He was utterly loyal to the second male lead, slipping him a knife behind his back.
As for the third male lead...
Tender devotion -> whispering sweet nothings -> shedding clothes -> passionate nights (the next ten thousand words are too explicit to include)
By day he worked like a beast of burden, and by night he shamelessly played the harlot.
When one of his subordinates made a mistake, he went to the study to seduce him: "This servant is here to entertain His Highness, the Sixth Prince."
When one of his shadow guards made a mistake, he went to the bedroom to seduce him: "This servant hasn't made a move, but his heart has."
When he made a mistake himself, he simply threw himself at him and seduced him: "Your Highness, will you take me home tonight?"
He firmly believed that the best hunters often appeared in the guise of prey!
That little lamb had long since been driven wild by his seductions. The trap was already set, all that remained was for the lamb to walk right into it. Then he'd pin the lamb to the imperial throne with a flourish and say, "Had enough fun? It's your turn to be emperor!"
But later on...
Su Wen stabbed, and the lamb handed him the knife. Su Wen dug the pit, and the lamb filled it in.
Could the little lamb be just as ruthless?
Once everything was done, Su Wen prepared to fake his death and escape, but the little lamb pinned him to the bed. "You've been acting for years, sir. Had enough?"
As the little lamb slowly drew closer, his gaze seeming to pierce right through Su Wen, he said, "If you haven't had enough, I'll keep acting with you, sir. Next up is the bed scene."
Su Wen (breaking down): "This isn't how the script goes! The third male lead's character has fallen apart!"
In a nutshell:
You think this is a story about a cannon-fodder character making a comeback? No, it's an intense push and pull between two lunatics who stab each other and then lick each other's wounds!
Content warnings:
1. Both leads are each other's only partners, 1v1, but everyone is crazy!
2. The political scheming will make your brain work, and the romance even more so.
3. The original male-female romance? The story mainly follows Su Wen's comeback script. Watch this dramatic beauty use his acting skills to win over a deranged villain!
------------ Coming Soon ------------
I've got two upcoming stories ready and waiting for you to check them out~
Coming Soon 1: A similar story, The Puppet Emperor's Bedside Powerbroker
I imprisoned him as a puppet emperor, and he trapped me as his bedside powerbroker.
On the day the new emperor, Chu Jin, ascended the throne, every official in the court knew that the man sitting on the dragon throne was nothing but a puppet.
Su Yunting, head of the ten great noble houses and regent with power over the entire court, could decide life and death with his pen and overturn the whole court with a glance. The emperor above him was merely a puppet decoration placed on the throne.
Everyone in the court knew that Su Yunting's word carried more weight than an imperial edict!
When Chu Jin opened his mouth to demand an investigation into the salt taxes in Jiangnan, Su Yunting gave a soft laugh, and every courtier fell silent.
When Chu Jin wanted to send troops to suppress the noble houses, Su Yunting casually toyed with the tiger tally, and one hundred thousand soldiers remained where they were.
Furious, Chu Jin swept the imperial desk to the floor. A jade cup shattered at Su Yunting's feet. "Guards! I want this treacherous minister who deceived the throne beheaded!"
The court fell deathly silent. The imperial guards didn't move a muscle.
Su Yunting dusted the tea stains off his official robes without even looking up. "His Majesty is tired. Take him back to rest."
But no one knew that every night...
This powerful minister, who held the court in the palm of his hand, would remove his official hat and robes, strip off his embroidered finery, and kneel beside the emperor's bed in nothing but a plain white undergarment. A dragon-patterned chain circled his ankle, clinking as Chu Jin tugged at it...
Chu Jin clutched the memorial he'd torn to shreds during the day and hurled it at Su Yunting's face. Gripping his chin, he said, "My minister Su, weren't you so impressive during the day?"
The corners of Su Yunting's eyes reddened as he let Chu Jin's blade cut through his white clothing.
Chu Jin gave a soft laugh and bent to whisper in his ear. "My minister Su, don't you love defying my edicts? But I insist that you accept my favor. Do you dare refuse?"
Cold air poured through the opening in his undergarment, making Su Yunting's lips tremble. He closed his eyes briefly and said, "I obey, Your Majesty."
One of Su Yunting's closest aides once asked him, "My lord, you're not afraid of anyone anymore. Why do you still put up with the emperor humiliating you every day?"
Su Yunting toyed with the memorial in his hand and smiled sweetly. "What's the point of a caged bird with broken wings?"
Only...
He never expected that one day, he too would become a caged bird.
Chu Jin broke his wings. Su Yunting went from an untouchable regent to a prisoner anyone could bully.
Everyone was waiting to see the phoenix fall!
But the truth was...
Chu Jin knelt by Su Yunting's bedside and combed his hair, running his fingers through his dark locks. "Would you like to wear this white jade hairpin today?"
On winter mornings when Su Yunting couldn't wake up, Chu Jin would wait in the snow until his dark hair turned white. Only then would Su Yunting's faint voice drift from the warm chamber. "I'm tired today. You may return, Your Majesty."
Frost clung to Chu Jin's lashes. With hands nearly frozen stiff, he fumbled in his arms and pulled out a piping-hot peach pastry. "It's... still warm. Eat it while it's hot."
