The Emperor Father Loves Him Dearly [Qing]

Yin Mi was born in the fifty-fifth year of the Kangxi reign. By then, Kangxi had experienced the Crown Prince being appointed and deposed twice, and he was thoroughly sick of his grown sons competing for power beneath their dutiful expressions. At a time like this, the birth of a child who knew nothing of the world rekindled Kangxi's tender affection for children. Looking at his sons, all in their thirties or forties, Kangxi could only think about weighing the pros and cons. But with his youngest son, he could simply be a loving father. At least when he became a father in his twenties, he had never thought of letting a child ride on his shoulders. The good times did not last. As Kangxi lay dying, the person he worried about most, aside from his second son, who had been placed under house arrest, was this child of only five or six. He repeatedly urged Yin Zhen to take good care of the boy. After taking the throne, Yongzheng ruthlessly cracked down on the Eighth Prince's faction. He found this younger half-brother, who was even younger than his own sons, a bit of a handful. So he decided to do as his imperial father had said: raise him well, then let him establish his own household when he was older. But he could never quite figure out how to treat this little brother. He was so young, even younger than Hongli and Hongzhou. Treating him like a son seemed wrong, but treating him like a younger brother seemed even stranger. Still, remembering how much his imperial father had doted on this little brother, Yongzheng could only sigh and indulge the boy a little. Whenever Yin Mi got into trouble, he would think, “The late Emperor loved him dearly. I should look after him a little more.” And so he kept cleaning up after his little brother. When he granted princely titles to his sons, he even included Yin Mi, giving him the title of Prince of the First Rank. That put him on equal footing with Yongzheng's two own sons. When Yongzheng passed away, apart from his unruly fifth son and his youngest son, who had only just been born, the person he worried about most was this little brother. Qianlong solemnly promised at his imperial father's bedside that he would take good care of his young uncle. Well, the late Emperor loved him dearly. If my young uncle gets into trouble, I'll just pretend I didn't see it. *An alternate-history Qing dynasty, not entirely based on historical fact. Good news: I got hit, but at least I only transmigrated. I didn't die on the spot. Yang Yue, transmigrated into a prominent family, was quite satisfied with his life. He had a talented elder brother with a promising official career, and he had been born into a distinguished family. He figured he could live a carefree life. But all those daydreams came to an abrupt end when Yang Yue learned that the emperor on the throne was none other than the famous Emperor Ling of Han. Who living in modern times hasn't heard of the Three Kingdoms that followed the fall of the Eastern Han? Once the famous Emperor Ling was gone, the chaos of the Ten Attendants would soon follow. After He Jin's death, Dong Zhuo would march on the capital, and then the land would be ravaged by war. And, most importantly! The most famous thing about his family, the Hongnong Yang clan, in this era was Yang Xiu's death. That was a text he'd studied in middle school. Everything he knew about the Three Kingdoms came from that and the Memorial on the Northern Expedition. Looking at Yang Xiu, lying beside him and still sucking on his finger, Yang Yue choked back a sigh. His elder brother and sister-in-law treated him well, and this was their only little nephew. Should he step up and do something? The late Eastern Han was a time of turmoil, with warlords rising everywhere. On the surface, Yang Xiu died because he got caught up in Cao Cao's struggle over who would inherit his position. In truth, the Hongnong Yang clan had long stood in Cao Cao's way as loyalists to the Han imperial house, and, to make matters worse, Yang Xiu was also a nephew of the Yuan family. Yang Yue thought it over. If he couldn't make it in Cao Wei, could he switch sides? The Hongnong Yang clan was a loyalist family with impeccable credentials. Perhaps they could try joining Liu Bei. *Alternate-history setting, not written for historical accuracy. Mixes official histories, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and unofficial accounts.
