After graduating from university, Chen Luyou applied to become a village official. On her first day in the countryside, she got lost in the mountains.
Thick fog trapped her there. Fortunately, she came across a villager gathering mushrooms on the mountain, who brought her back to Yunshan Village.
The old village chief had just passed away, and Chen Luyou somehow ended up taking on the job, becoming the new chief of Yunshan Village.
But she soon discovered that the place had no water, electricity, or internet. The villagers survived by hunting and farming.
Village official Chen Luyou took on the crucial task of teaching the law: "Illegal hunting can land you in jail!"
The villagers of Yunshan Village: "Huh? What'd the chief say? If we don't hand over our catch, it's the government officials who'll haul us off to jail!"
After comparing notes, Chen Luyou finally understood: this Yunshan Village wasn't that Yunshan Village. They were two different villages in different time periods.
A month later, the fog cleared. When Chen Luyou finally found a chance to go down the mountain, she discovered that her divorced and remarried parents hadn't even noticed she was missing, and the deadline to report for her village official job had long since passed.
Chen Luyou wandered around at the foot of the mountain all day, then made a decision: she would return to the ancient Yunshan Village.
A village official is a village official, wherever you are, right?
The economy, culture, and environment all need work, no matter the era!
Up on the mountain, she could also round up and beat the men who gambled away everything, the old geezers who favored sons over daughters, the unscrupulous merchants who made money through shady dealings, and all the rest.
From then on, whenever the fog cleared, Chen Luyou, chief of Yunshan Village, would carry down genuine wild mountain produce and peddle it to modern-day tourists, trading it for money to buy medicine, grain, and clothes, then haul it all back to the ancient Yunshan Village!
