Long Baomei, a college junior, was home for summer break. One night, as she scrolled through her phone, an enormous rumbling suddenly came from the sky. After a huge explosion, flames lit up the deep forest behind her. The powerful quake even shook down the pigsty at her home.
The power went out, the internet was gone, and her phone broke.
At noon, Baomei got hungry. With the electricity out, she couldn't use the rice cooker, so she had to cook over a wood fire. When she went to fetch firewood from the collapsed pigsty, she unexpectedly found a young woman curled up in a pile of wood, covered in wounds and with no clothes on.
The beautiful young woman seemed deeply traumatized. She wouldn't speak or respond to anyone.
Baomei worried she might have suffered some terrible fate. She had planned to hide her and find a chance to sneak her to the provincial capital to report it to the police. But then the sheep started walking upright, the pigs started talking, the chickens, ducks, and geese mutated, the fish came ashore, cockroaches and spiders started moving in organized, disciplined swarms, the village chief turned into a demon monster with wings, and Granny Xiong, who was over eighty and had been bedridden for months, looking close to death, grew younger and younger. Worst of all, they all started eating people...
