Tezuka Kunimitsu was a meticulous person. He liked to do everything according to his own plans and at his own pace, including playing the tennis he loved most.
But all that discipline came to a halt whenever he ran into his childhood friend next door.

In the morning, Tezuka Kunimitsu got up thirty minutes early, ate breakfast, and prepared to head to school for morning practice. But just as he reached the school gate, a phone call from his childhood friend sent him straight back.
At the wooden door, he immediately noticed the red-haired boy's bruised face and tattered school uniform.
When he learned the other boy hadn't come home all night, Tezuka tightened his grip on his tennis bag, suppressing his displeasure. He opened the door, brought the boy to his room, and lent him a uniform to change into.
Things like this happened often. Many people found it hard to believe that Tezuka Kunimitsu's childhood friend was a delinquent.
Tezuka, however, took it in stride. He'd even gotten into the habit of treating all the boy's wounds. This wordless understanding had always been there between them.
