After the war between the immortals and demons, Xuan Yin, a little snake demon, married Li Yu, the God of War from the Heavenly Realm.
If not for their twin-bond seal, Li Yu wouldn't have spared Xuan Yin a second glance.
He didn't love her, and he wouldn't let her fall in love with him.
For a demon to marry into the Heavenly Realm was already reaching above her station, and Xuan Yin was only an inconspicuous green snake.
After the wedding, she endured endless ridicule in the Heavenly Realm.
Even the palace maids dared to humiliate her,
claiming she had used any means necessary to climb the social ladder.
Li Yu already had someone in his heart, and she had stolen another woman's husband.
Xuan Yin ignored it all. Day after day, for three years, she treated Li Yu well. He was cold to her, but she never made a fuss, quietly keeping to her place.

Until Li Yu saw the secret Xuan Yin had hidden in the Abyssal Realm.
In the scenes before him, she was with Liu Chuan, the late young lord of the Demon Realm, who had died five hundred years ago. They understood each other, stayed by each other's side, played and bickered, and secretly pledged themselves to one another.
She had never smiled at him like that...
When Li Yu killed Liu Chuan all those years ago, he had hesitated at the sight of a face identical to his own.
The only difference was that Liu Chuan's eyes were blue.
Only then did Li Yu realize he was someone else's substitute.
Li Yu furiously destroyed the Abyssal Realm. Sensing something was wrong, Xuan Yin rushed over, but it was too late.
Tears streaming down her face, she raised her whip toward Li Yu and repeated over and over, "You're insane."
How could Li Yu? How could he...

Later, Xuan Yin fled the Heavenly Palace and found a way to bring Liu Chuan back to life: she had to kill Li Yu and use his soul to guide Liu Chuan's spirit.
Later still, Li Yu was killed by Xuan Yin's own hand.
At the sight of those familiar blue eyes, Xuan Yin wept with a pain that tore her heart apart.
It was her Liu Chuan.
Li Yu lowered his eyes and pulled his wife into a tight embrace. Stroking her hair just as Liu Chuan used to, he said, "A Yin, I'm back."
