Lu Xianran couldn't stop smiling at her dazed state. He turned to find a racing jacket and put it on, then bent down and managed to lift Ni Tao off the sofa.
The floor-to-ceiling window reflected the scene inside. An empty racing jacket floated through the air on its own, like a gentleman carrying Ni Tao all the way to bed.

Ni Tao: "Lu Xianran, could you put on a bear mascot costume?"
A moment later, a big bear mascot emerged from the room.
Without a word, Ni Tao buried herself in its arms. Lu Xianran looked a little bewildered, but let her do as she pleased.
When she finally pulled away, the bear's head came off too.
Ni Tao patted the bear head in her arms and told Lu Xianran, "Hugging the bear cheered me up. Good night."

During a brain-computer interface experiment, Lu Xianran controlled a mechanical arm and gently, almost tenderly, touched Ni Tao's cheek, then tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. The mechanical fingers slid from her earlobe down her neck, resting against her carotid artery. The cold touch of the metal made Ni Tao's heart flutter.
Lu Xianran looked innocent and asked, seemingly puzzled, "Why is your heart beating so fast?"
