I Picked Up a Demon, Family!

The world is absurd, chaotic, and without order.

Twisted creatures roam the pitch-black earth, searching aimlessly among the ruins. They slaughter and devour one another, splattering blood across the ground as their bones crumble into soil.

Black birds and black insects circle through the crimson sky. The black birds devour the black insects without pause. Even when their bellies swell into grotesque spheres, they keep eating greedily, until their stomachs burst like overripe fruit and turn into swarms of black insects.

Black, red, black, red.

Ah, he was black, too.

His black wings were no different from those of the black birds, and his red eyes were just like the red sky.

Yes, he belonged here. He was one of the grotesque things.

He was a monster.

But then a gigantic pillar of light pierced the hideous earth and sky!

The foul, sticky earth broke apart piece by piece, and the oppressive sky slowly faded away.

At last, he saw the sun: golden and blazing hot.

He gazed fervently at it. Even as the sunlight made tears stream down his face, he could not bear to close his eyes. He wanted to keep looking, forever and ever.

But a voice came from behind him. "Big bat, want to come with me?"

Through his blurry vision, he saw those golden eyes.

On an ordinary day, Yin Guangyu was doing an ordinary job when he encountered an extraordinary demon.

The demon said, "Are your eyes the color of the sun?"

What Yin Guangyu heard was, "Please take me home with you! I want to go with you!"

Yin Guangyu: "OK. Sure. No problem."

The demon: "?"

[Notes]

1. The story takes place seventy years after the Cataclysm. Technology has advanced greatly, with a slight cyberpunk feel.

2. There is considerable conflict between ability users and ordinary people, but ordinary people are not the weaker side, since they follow the path of mechanical ascension.

3. The setting for the contamination cores is my own creation. Any similarities are purely coincidental.
