In her second year of rotations, Yun Yifei often heard fellow residents say that Xi Chengyu of the urology department was cold, strict, and practically a sadist.

But the first time she actually saw him was in a urology clinic, where she had accompanied her boyfriend to ask about circumcision.

After the examination, the man emerged from behind the bed curtain. His white shirt was buttoned neatly to the very top beneath his white coat, leaving his Adam's apple just visible. His refined, composed face revealed no emotion as he meticulously washed his hands using the seven-step method.

Yun Yifei only looked away when her boyfriend reminded her to.

"The surgery isn't necessary, but if you choose to have it," he glanced up, his voice still even, "you'll need to abstain from sex for a month."

"Are you going to do it?"

"Yes."

Half a month later, she began her scheduled three-month rotation in urology. Xi Chengyu was the team leader of the group next door, and could just about be considered half her teacher.

On her first night on call, an incident occurred in the ward.

When Yun Yifei returned to the office, she saw Xi Chengyu, who was supposed to be resting at home, walking over with a container of porridge. Rain had left mottled marks on his shoulders. His eyes held a smile as he said, "You're excellent. You're a very professional doctor."

She had long doubted the rumors, but only now did she see the tenderness in his eyes, and realize that he wasn't entirely unaffected either.

After she confessed her feelings, Yun Yifei noticed that Xi Chengyu was particularly sensitive about being called "Teacher Xi," which only brought out her mischievous side even more.

"Teacher Xi, you know I like you, right?"

Xi Chengyu looked a little helpless. Stroking the crown of her head, he said softly, "At least don't call me Teacher Xi at a time like this. It makes me feel like I'm... committing a crime."

"Is that so? I thought you liked it." Yun Yifei touched his bobbing Adam's apple and asked nonchalantly, winking slyly. "Xi... Chengyu."

"Mm. I like you too."
