It has been common knowledge in the cultivation world since ancient times that those who cultivate the Heartless Dao find it hard to ascend. After all, they either suffer a shattered Dao Heart and become demons, fail to ascend and become crippled, or, worse still, die completely. It is truly terrifying!
One winter, Sect Elder He Laizi adopted an abandoned baby. Since he had found the child beneath a flower, he gave him the surname Hua and named him Jinheng: Hua Jinheng.
Hua Jinheng was as beautiful as his surname suggested, with a face that could outshine the moon and put flowers to shame. He was the sect's most beloved disciple, without exception. His only flaw was a touch of rebelliousness: he refused to heed his master's earnest advice not to cultivate the Heartless Dao.
Things took a turn when he was sixteen. His master, He Laizi, brought home another pair of twelve-year-old children. The three fellow disciples got along well enough, but when Hua Jinheng turned twenty, his youngest junior brother began showing him affection again and again. Hua Jinheng's Dao Heart gradually wavered. Just as he resolved to give up cultivating the Heartless Dao and spend his life with his junior brother, he discovered that the younger boy was also courting the sect leader's exceptionally talented eldest disciple, and treating him even better than Hua Jinheng.
He even overheard his beloved junior brother telling that eldest disciple all the ways Hua Jinheng fell short, and making a joke of the childhood experience Hua Jinheng least wanted to talk about.
His hair turned white overnight. As his power dwindled and his consciousness grew muddled, he was ambushed and killed.
If he could live another life, he would never misjudge people again. Heaven heard his wish and granted it. When he opened his eyes once more, he pretended not to notice his junior brother's advances and devoted himself to cultivation.
But why had the sect leader's eldest disciple started developing special feelings for him? Was he truly destined to fail at cultivating the Heartless Dao?
