You died.
The bad news: You’ve become a cannon-fodder character with a naturally gifted spiritual body in an immortal cultivation novel. In three days, the sect will take the blood from your heart to use as the final ingredient in the Immortal Venerable’s ascension pill.
The good news: You have three people you can try to win over: your aloof immortal master, the brutal and seductive Demon Lord, and the gentle princess who’s been sent away for a political marriage.
You choose the first one, the aloof Immortal Venerable.
According to the plot, your heart’s blood is a tonic the ruthless cultivator needs before ascending to immortality. To stay alive, you do everything in your power to please her.
You offer her the purest morning dew, kneel outside her icy jade cave to confess your admiration, and use your naturally gifted spiritual body to nourish her cold dantian.
She emerges from seclusion. Her eyes, cold as frost and snow, settle on you. Those eyes, usually rimmed with ice, now smolder with strange flames. You think your plan has failed.
But she slaughters every fellow disciple who covets your naturally gifted spiritual body. Dressed in white, she stands in a pool of blood, the tip of her ice sword stained with the blood of countless fellow disciples. She turns, grabs your wrist, and smiles at you with a bloodstained face, gentle and terrifying.
“Now no one can take A-Wen away from me.”
You think she’s terrifying. You don’t want to be killed or imprisoned, so you decisively fake your death. This time, you choose the brutal Demon Lord.
You figure the demon world is direct and straightforward. Surely offering your loyalty will get you out alive.
So you keep using the exact same methods you used to please the Immortal Venerable.
The Demon Lord’s crimson eyes stare at you with keen interest, as if you’re a pet that belongs to her.
You realize something’s wrong and try to run, but it’s too late. She locks you in a pool for three days and three nights. You don’t know what she’s put in the water, but even breathing makes you burn. Every day, she strips off her clothes and personally feeds you strange-tasting food.
Your consciousness grows hazier and hazier. At last, you realize that the strange water and strange food are part of the most depraved spell in the demon realm.
It will erode your spiritual awareness, destroy your thoughts, alter your memories, and make it so that the Demon Lord is the only person in your heart, mind, and body, turning you into her forever-**.
You tremble all over. Why is this Demon Lord such a pervert too? So, with help from the System, you successfully make your escape. This time, you choose the gentle princess.
You learn from your previous mistakes. This time, instead of blindly trying to please her, you focus on one person.
The princess is timid and afraid to fight back, and she’s about to be sent away for a political marriage. So you stay by her side every day, teach her how to read people, show her self-defense, and secretly use your spiritual power to strengthen her frail body. Watching her change from timid to resolute fills you with joy.
Then, the day the enemy forces surround the city, you try to hide with her. But when you rush to the main hall, you find corpses and blood everywhere.
The princess you remember as too timid to speak is now sitting on the throne in imperial robes, a long sword in her hand. At her feet lies the emperor’s severed head.
Beside her is a huge golden cage.
You turn to leave, only to find the courtyard outside packed with soldiers, surrounding you on all sides.
From the dais, the new emperor’s gentle, possessive voice calls out: “Where are you going, my empress?”
All three people you tried to win over have gone completely insane. The System can’t help you either. The empress locks you away and “takes good care of you.”
You think power is terrifying, so the empress must eventually become absorbed in it and lose interest in you. Then you’ll be free.
But only later do you learn that the princess seized power not out of greed. She wants to use the emperor’s authority to stand against the immortal and demon realms. She already knew about what happened between you and the immortals and demons, and had long since decided to keep you imprisoned at her side for the rest of your life.
You’re numb with despair and completely out of options, so you decide to give up. You even start thinking that being empress forever and enjoying a life of luxury might not be so bad.
But today, the System tells you that the Immortal Venerable and the Demon Lord have found out where you are. They’re on their way now.
