Blurb
In his previous life, after his father died, Wu Xiaoman and his mother were all that remained of the Wu family. With no man in the household, their relatives took advantage of them, seizing their fields and the house his father had just built. They even tricked him into marrying a spoiled young master who was impotent, leaving him to suffer terribly.
After accidentally killing the young master, Man-ge'er returned home to see his mother one last time, only to find that she had already taken her own life.
Reborn on the day his relatives came to take everything, Man-ge'er resolved to change his fate. He grabbed a cleaver and drove them out!
To protect his father's estate and prevent the tragedies that had befallen his mother and himself in his previous life, Man-ge'er came up with one last solution: take in a son-in-law.
As for those with ill intentions, he wouldn't let them off either.

Li Xun had been clever from a young age, passing the Tongsheng exam at just ten.
After his parents died unexpectedly, he was left to care for his younger brother and sister. No matter how clever he was, he was still very young, and it was hard to provide for all three of them.
As luck would have it, he heard that the wealthy Wu family in the neighboring village was looking for a son-in-law, and the idea took root.
The Wu family had accumulated quite a fortune. Surely they could support him and his siblings, and perhaps even pay for his education.
*
Faced with a crowd of crooked, grasping people whose eyes gleamed with greed, Wu Xiaoman chose the young scholar. The only drawback was that he was so young.
But the point of taking in a son-in-law was to silence his relatives, so a younger one would do. Besides, younger meant safer, at least at a glance.
And so the two of them hit it off and made do with building a life together.
*
After experiencing despair, Wu Xiaoman no longer expected love in this life. He knew Li Xun was no ordinary person, so he agreed with him that they would divorce once Li Xun passed the imperial examination. By then, if they had a child, his relatives would have no reason to covet his estate.
But on the day Li Xun passed, when he heard the word divorce, his eyes reddened. Without a word, he picked Wu Xiaoman up and tossed him onto the bed, making sure he would never dare say those two words again.

Coming soon: The Little Husband Who Fled the Famine. Please add it to your reading list:
After a snow disaster struck Luzhou, Qiu He fled with his family. By the time they reached Nanping Village in Zezhou, they had run out of food, and he collapsed unconscious. His family begged the villagers for help, but only the Qi family took pity on them and opened their door to offer them a bite to eat.
To repay the kindness, Qiu He's family left him behind to become the husband of the Qi family's eldest son, who was over twenty and still unmarried.
Qiu He was cold and starving, barely clinging to life when he arrived at the Qi household. But he had a tenacious vitality, just as his name suggested.
That vitality seemed to spread to the Qi family, too, bringing their household back to life.
Qiu He was both happy and scared to learn he would become Qi Yang's husband. He was happy because Qi Yang was handsome, and they looked well matched. He was scared because Qi Yang always had a cold expression that intimidated him, so Qiu He didn't dare speak to him.
The Qi family had once been well off. Qi Yang had been engaged at sixteen, but misfortune struck without warning. His father fell gravely ill, and the family spent all their money on treatment, sold several acres of land, and went into debt. His engagement was called off, too.
His father's illness seemed like a bottomless pit. None of the local girls or men who could bear children wanted to marry him, and all Qi Yang could think about was earning more money. He never expected that one kind act from his family would bring him a little husband.
Once cleaned up, his husband had a head of brown curls and amber eyes, just like the orange cat his grandmother kept. Qi Yang was delighted. His little husband was lively and adorable, smiling at everyone, but whenever he saw Qi Yang, he bolted like a mouse spotting a cat.
Qi Yang knew his cold expression frightened him. He tried to change, but his naturally stern face only made things worse.
Reading guide:
1. A story about two locals, full of everyday family life and a slow, steady romance.
