"Do you still think that if you wave your hand, I'll come running to you like a dog?"
"Dream on."

From Chi Jialan's obscure student days to her life as a superstar adored by millions, Shen Mo stayed by her side for seven whole years. It was long enough for even him to almost believe they could make it to the end together.
In his first year of college, Shen Mo fell in love with Chi Jialan at first sight and gave up all his free time to attend classes outside his major.
In his second year, Chi Jialan accepted his confession. Shen Mo was overjoyed and rushed to celebrate, pointedly ignoring the momentary awkwardness in her eyes.
In his third year, Chi Jialan wanted to enter the entertainment industry. Shen Mo hugged her and said, "I'll be your strongest support."
And he did exactly that, for seven years.
He could have kept deceiving himself forever, but he couldn't ignore the perpetual indifference in Chi Jialan's eyes.
After his love had been frozen over more times than he could count, the disappointment buried deep in his heart broke free like a beast escaping its cage. One day, Shen Mo suddenly realized that pulling away from this relationship might not be so hard after all.
So once his disappointment had finally piled high enough, he broke up with Chi Jialan. As expected, she didn't even try to stop him. He left City A without looking back.
*
Later, someone teased, "They say Jialan has eyes that look as if she was born to love deeply. I wonder if we'll ever get to see what she looks like when she's truly in love."
Shen Mo happened to overhear as he passed by, and couldn't help lowering his head with a quiet laugh.
Maybe they would. But he'd been unlucky enough not to see it in seven years.
As he turned away, he heard a woman's voice, soft yet utterly certain: "You will."
Shen Mo didn't stop. He tossed the things in his hand into a trash can.
It didn't matter. It wouldn't be him, and he didn't care anymore.
*
He never expected Chi Jialan to come after him after he left, showing up at his new office in City B without a care for the commotion she caused downstairs.
He frowned and looked at her. "Sorry, but I thought we broke up."
Chi Jialan took a deep breath, trying to keep her expression blank. Then she said, one word at a time, "I didn't agree to it."
