Once upon a time, there was a child who lost his pact root before he learned how to use it. The child met a benefactor, who guided him in cultivating his pact and helped him become a great power. But the benefactor was always so unserious, making every lesson and assignment seem like a game. With all that joking around, the benefactor raised the child into a rigid, unsmiling sort of person. In the end, following the benefactor's instructions, the child broke through his cocoon and became an immortal. To his surprise, he discovered that his benefactor had always been training him as a successor. All those unexpected schemes were just the benefactor's unorthodox way of trying to hand over the reins and quit as soon as possible. The child lived up to the benefactor's hopes, and the benefactor happily went on their way.
