Muhui High School: A four-star high school where not one student has gotten into Tsinghua or Peking University in six years, yet the school still sets off fireworks on the night the Gaokao results come out.
Huang Shiyu, a Chinese-language ace with a weakness in math, and Zhou Chuan, a math ace with a weakness in Chinese, get caught eating snacks by the dean. They grow close, hit it off, and become study partners.
In their second year of high school, they skip the last evening study session to watch fireworks on the rooftop. Just as the fireworks shoot into the sky, Huang Shiyu meets Zhou Chuan's gaze, and her heart bursts open with a bang.
In their third year, rumors spread throughout the class that Huang Shiyu and Zhou Chuan are dating. Zhou Chuan openly stands up for her in front of everyone. When their homeroom teacher confronts him, he declares, "We're not dating, but I like her!"
Years later, Zhou Chuan shows up uninvited at Huang Shiyu's wedding.
"Do you regret it?" Huang Shiyu asks, unwilling to accept it.
"I regret it. Every minute, every second!" Zhou Chuan replies. By then, he has graduated from Tsinghua University and become a leading figure in his field.
With her back to Zhou Chuan, Huang Shiyu clutches her satin wedding dress until it is full of wrinkles.
Zhou Chuan, let me sacrifice my entire youth for your future.
Look at all the people who admire your success and ambition.
But I only love you as you were in your youth.
So, I wish you a bright future!
