Jian Xi has just won another Best Actress award, but controversy has always followed her. Shortly after returning to China, her publicity event went off the rails, following the airport incident where she was accused of "strolling with fans."
At a concert attended by tens of thousands, the camera focused on Jian Xi as she prepared to show off her piano skills.
New singer Qiao Youshu had barely sung a line when the piano abruptly stopped, ending on a jarring note.
Though the two had never met face-to-face, the stage screen caught them both wearing similarly stiff expressions.
Before long, "Jian Xi's performance goes wrong" and "Jian Xi loses her temper and terminates contract with new singer" were trending.
Jian Xi's manager, who'd been fretting over her public image, promptly tricked her into joining a dating reality show.
Jian Xi strapped on a military entrenching tool, planning to cool off on a survival show.
But when she arrived at the set, Qiao Youshu waved at her with a smile, suitcase in hand.
Jian Xi: How am I supposed to calm down now?
The variety show's livestream went viral. Fans fought nonstop, while shippers went wild, scrutinizing every moment for hints of romance.
Jian Xi was chatting with the other guests when someone handed her a salt shaker. She took it and unscrewed the lid out of habit, then looked up to see Qiao Youshu smiling at her.
Jian Xi silently screwed the lid back on as tight as she could.
At dinner, Jian Xi had to gulp down water after choking on plain noodles.
When she got up in the middle of the night, she found Qiao Youshu sleeping soundly in her arms. Jian Xi was stunned.
Half asleep, Qiao Youshu curled beneath Jian Xi's arm and murmured softly, "Don't get the wrong idea. I was sleepwalking."
Behind the livestream cameras, the fans watched, blushing and barely daring to breathe.

[The Little Black Box]
When they were young, cicadas clamored through a summer night. Jian Xi finished her homework and caught Qiao Youshu secretly writing a love letter. One playfully snatched it away to read, while the other tried to hide it, blushing as she denied everything.
Later, Jian Xi wondered countless times whether that letter had been meant for her.
Much later, she heard the song Qiao Youshu had composed as a girl again. Qiao Youshu had used the words of the love letter as its lyrics...
By then, the two of them had already parted ways...
Through all the years they spent hating each other, it turned out they'd always been in love...
