From the age of eighteen to thirty, Lu Huai and Sheng Jinqing loved each other for twelve years.
They went through the college entrance exams, graduation, and work together. Sheng Jinqing stood by Lu Huai as he quit his stable job and traveled all over the country, building a business from nothing with him.
If everything that came next had gone according to plan, they would have raised a bright, adorable child together, too.
But so many things happen when you least expect them.
If it hadn't suddenly poured that afternoon, Sheng Jinqing wouldn't have turned back home for an umbrella, and she wouldn't have seen a woman lying on the sofa she and Lu Huai had carefully chosen together.
The woman's legs were wrapped around Lu Huai.
Sheng Jinqing silently returned to her car, took out the prenatal checkup report she'd brought home from the hospital, and stared at it for a long, long time.
At last, she tore it to pieces.
And threw it in the trash.
In our twelfth year, I stopped loving you.
During the first week after Sheng Jinqing left, Lu Huai thought she was just throwing a tantrum.
During the second week after she left, he thought she'd just fallen into one of her strange moods again and gone out to clear her head.
A month after Sheng Jinqing left, Lu Huai could no longer sit still. He opened the divorce agreement that had been gathering dust for ages, only to find a report confirming she had miscarried.
He thought he was going mad.
The summer they met again, Lu Huai saw Sheng Jinqing leave a hotel with her arm linked through a young man's. Faint red marks showed on her neck.
The young man was younger than him, more handsome than him, and loved Sheng Jinqing more than he did.
