An alternate history inspired by the Song Dynasty.
A brave, resilient tabloid investigator heroine vs. a possessive, scheming green tea hero

Wen Songning was a general's daughter, while Song Cun was the son of a military strategist. Childhood friends, they grew up accompanying their fathers on the Huaiyong Army's campaigns.
In the fifth year of the Dazhao era, the Huaiyong Army was almost wiped out in the bloody battle at Shili Pass, then falsely accused of fleeing before the fight even began! The real deserters hunted down the remaining troops to claim the credit.
Their fathers died, and the younger generation was scattered.

Wen Songning was adopted by the You couple and renamed You Nanzhi. As an adult, she became an upright and quick-witted investigator for the tabloid office, specializing in tracking down cases and gathering news from government offices. Stubborn and courageous, she was willing to take risks in her pursuit of the truth. Childhood trauma left her prone to panic when faced with violence, and only two people could put her at ease.
One was a layabout whom You Nanzhi recruited as her “little informant” for his handsome face. Though timid in his dealings, he was well-informed and provided excellent service.
The other was “Yi,” a legendary member of the Wanderers' Guild, with extraordinary fighting skills and a clean, decisive way of doing things. He was also connected to their fathers in countless ways, making him key to You Nanzhi's search for the truth about the past.
After his master died, Song Cun gradually lost his attachment to the world again. He carried a flask of warm wine up to the tower alone, letting the wind drink its fill as he toasted an old friend.
“Hey.” A woman in a gauzy peach-colored dress looked up at him from below.
The evening wind howled. The wine he poured splashed onto her face and ran down her neck, slipping slowly into the soft hollow below.
She licked her lips. “What kind of wine is that? It smells amazing!”
She smiled like a fool. Song Cun spun around and leapt to another hidden rooftop, where he could still see her. A heavy wooden case hung from her shoulder, and she walked along cheerfully, completely unaware of the danger creeping up behind her.
He never meddled in other people's business unless there was enough money in it. That day, he made an exception and hurled his flask at the person behind her, sacrificing half a flask's worth of wine.
Later, Song Cun assumed the name A Ming and got close to You Nanzhi. Once, after drinking, she pressed her warm lips to his cool cheek without giving him a chance to resist. But after sleeping it off, she acted as if nothing had happened.
He changed into black night clothes and rescued her when she was having a panic attack.
She leaned against Song Cun's shoulder, her ragged breaths brushing his cheek.
“Have you been drinking?”
“I had an iced drink. Malt-flavored.”
She pressed closer and closer, so he had no choice but to set her down. The danger was long gone; he could leave now without a problem. He turned and walked three steps away, then turned back, frustration simmering, to confront her.
“Do you get touchy with men whenever you catch a whiff of alcohol?”
“How can you say that about me?” She even sounded offended.
“You do it, I say it.”
“I didn't.”
“Liar.” He strode up to her, covered her eyes, removed his own mask, and bent down toward her...
