Wen Zhuyun can communicate with spirits, specifically the spirits of the dead. After a relative's unexpected death, she inherits a... perfectly legal and legitimate little spirit-medium shop! So she decides to take a gap year and make it big in business!

To get her business off the ground, Wen Zhuyun secretly hands out flyers, promotes her services, and competes with the association for customers, taking a “share of the pie.”

Who knew that success would attract unwanted attention? Her casual “showing off” quickly catches the eye of a Celestial Master.

Su Mingxu has excellent natural talent but is born with a fear of ghosts, so all he can do is miserable odd jobs like running errands and buying groceries.

After finally getting a promotion, the young man spots this independent spirit-medium shop on the street at first sight.

With her business finally picking up, Wen Zhuyun is naturally unwilling to close up shop. Su Mingxu seems like a decent person, so she decides to try winning him over first.

And what bait does she use? Dirt on his employer, of course! The Celestial Master Association bullies clients and charges outrageous fees. It also seems to be secretly plotting some huge scheme...

So, after a weekend invitation to a spirit-summoning session and a bit of probing, Su Mingxu is persuaded, just as she'd expected.

The young man lifts his head and says firmly, “As a Celestial Master with a sense of justice, of course I have to punish evil and uphold good.”

Wen Zhuyun glances sideways at him. “Isn't it also because you want revenge for being worked like a pack mule?”

“...” Maybe they should just keep that twenty-percent selfish motive between themselves!

Anyway, each with their own interests in mind, they joined forces.

Wen Zhuyun performs the incantations; Su Mingxu stands guard.

Wen Zhuyun catches people; Su Mingxu follows along.

Wen Zhuyun threatens clients; Su... Su Mingxu silently closes the door.

As time goes by, they both get used to having the other around.

Wen Zhuyun doesn't like socializing and just wants to stay in her comfort zone when she's free. But at some point, someone starts showing up with tea and pastries, politely pushing open the door and then never leaving.

When a handsome man who's just her type comes along, why not keep him? Boss Wen has never been one to deny herself, so she reaches out and scoops him up. “Honestly, what am I going to do with you? I've decided, you're the one!”

Later, whenever Su Mingxu thinks about the things that happened before they started dating, he quietly complains on his own behalf. “Hmph, someone was quick to tease me for being timid and afraid of ghosts, but awfully slow to notice how brave I was when I came running to you.”

The spirit mediums and Celestial Masters are mostly based on my own headcanon, so please don't overanalyze them!

When he opened his eyes again, Jiang Zhishui was sitting upright in front of his own grave, staring blankly at his pink little paw pads.

Well, he's alive. But he's become the cat he used to raise.

Jiang Zhishui cheerfully lifts his big tail, walks past his family pretending to cry, and plops down right on his one true love's leather shoe.

“Meow~” I've decided you're my next person, Fang Jingnian!

After the man is “accosted,” he glances at the cat without interest. He's just about to lift his foot when the cat wraps itself around his leg.

He studies the “cat treat” and, as if possessed, takes it home.

Living with Fang Jingnian brings back one memory after another for Jiang Zhishui.

So he lets loose.

Following his nature, he scratches the sofa, knocks over cups, tears up documents, and even drops from a height into the man's arms like a “cannonball”...

As time passes, he keenly notices a change. Fang Jingnian gradually shifts from ignoring and avoiding him to treating him with gentle indulgence.

But one thing never changes: cats are forbidden from entering the study.

Sometimes Jiang Zhishui feels that Fang Jingnian is strange.

He's obviously incredibly busy, yet quietly watches him all day.

He's clearly a neat freak, yet goes out covered in cat hair.

The cat's name is Liuliu, yet he keeps calling it “Jiang Zhishui.”

Jiang Zhishui is pleased but puzzled. Is this really the same “faithless” man who rejected him twice?

One day, though, he sneaks into the “forbidden zone” and sees the wall covered in photographs. Jiang Zhishui is stunned.

Knock, knock. Someone slowly raps on the door.

Little Jiang the cat's fur stands on end as he turns around and sees Fang Jingnian looking at him with a faint smile.

“Looks like I've been caught.”

“You've been a little cat for long enough, Suisui. Isn't it time to turn back?”

Jiang Zhishui (swishing his tail): O.O

Hehe, my one true love has turned dark, and he really loves me.
