Suspect top X police officer bottom.
In a nutshell, from the top's perspective:
My crush is a detective. After losing his memory, he forgot all about me and now insists I'm a suspect, refusing to let me go. What should I do?
Huo Fanghai is a mid-level federal detective, with the highest case clearance rate in his precinct.
From smugglers to the upper echelons of the Federation, one bizarre and bloody case after another unfolds: "Woman's Corpse in a Vat," "The Decapitation on the Train"... Huo Fanghai swears he'll catch the real culprit.
During the investigation, a "suspect" strolls into his sights: Mason, a young financial magnate and elusive investor.
Mason seems connected to every case, yet there is never any decisive evidence. With power in his hands, even the police chief gives him a wide berth. But Huo Fanghai refuses to back down.
Huo Fanghai starts playing cat and mouse with him, moving between banquets and theaters and across different planets as he hunts for clues and brings every truth to light.
In a room at the grand theater, inside a singer's dressing room, Mason removes his top hat and sits before Huo Fanghai. Calm, elegant, and composed, he smiles and offers up a clue. "Detective Huo, I'll cooperate with your investigation. I'm a good person."
He watches the detective in front of him, who stares at him like a wolf. This ruthless man left without a word several years ago and forgot him completely. Now, at long last, they've met again, only for Huo Fanghai to suspect him of being a criminal, go to great lengths to get his contact information, and obtain permission to investigate him...
Still, it isn't so bad having him watch him every day.
Huo Fanghai takes the clue.
"Who knows? Right now, there's no evidence to prove you're innocent."
Mason smiles. "And there's no evidence to prove I'm guilty either, is there?"
Huo Fanghai wonders if Mason will still be so unruffled when he finds evidence of his crimes.
As the investigation deepens, the events grow clearer.
The truth behind a murder case from decades ago comes to light. Huo Fanghai realizes it was only the beginning, and a violent storm is about to sweep across the Federation...
And when that happens, no one will be able to control their own fate.
Reader's guide:
1. Both leads are each other's first and only.
2. Equally matched leads.
3. There are some fantastical elements, but not many. They're mostly there to create a beautiful, dreamlike atmosphere.
4. There's a bit of a road-trip feel to the story, with the protagonists traveling all over the place. That's what makes it fun... We're in space, after all, so of course there'll be interstellar travel!!!
