Stealing Her Away
Female college student × carefree playboy
Before she met Lin Shuanghong, Xu Miantai had always thought she was hard to like.
Even her own parents treated her rather indifferently. No matter how hard she tried to be obedient and sensible, she was never as cherished as her little brother, still a child himself.
Classmates and relatives from the village would avoid her with distaste, saying she was nothing but a huge nuisance.
Even Guan Xianqing, the boyfriend who had once pursued her desperately and promised never to change his heart, gradually changed after they got together. He called her dull and boring, cold and selfish, like a block of wood.
Dull, cold, a weirdo...
Xu Miantai had heard those words her whole life. They no longer stirred a ripple in her heart. If anything, she almost wanted to laugh.
See? She really was hard to like.
It wasn't until she met Lin Shuanghong, that carefree young master, that Xu Miantai understood: even a tear brought on by sand in one's eyes could be precious to someone who cared.
Xu Miantai's first impression of Lin Shuanghong was terrible.
He lounged against a pool table, belittling and mocking her current boyfriend, Guan Xianqing, and humiliating him without a care.
Of course, her impression of him the second time they met wasn't any better.
He wore a black shirt that showed plenty of skin, a careless smile playing on his lips. Blocking her way without the least bit of courtesy, he took her hand and toyed with it, saying, "Break up with him and be with me."
Xu Miantai snatched her hand back, called him a lunatic, and turned to leave.
But the third time, her feelings shifted a little.
A blizzard hit in winter, and Xu Miantai came down with a high fever. Barely conscious, she messaged Guan Xianqing, only to get a perfunctory reply and a comment telling her not to be so melodramatic.
She thought this brief, half-hearted romance had nearly run its course.
Weak and feverish, she took a taxi to the hospital for an IV drip. As she curled up alone beside the cold wall, staring blankly into space, she heard a voice from above that sounded almost mocking: "Where's that good-for-nothing? Why isn't he here with you?"
Xu Miantai looked up and saw Lin Shuanghong, tall and slender. As he spoke, he took off his well-tailored black coat and expensive scarf, then knelt before her to drape them over her.
He bustled around taking care of her, and stayed by her side all night.
For the first time, Xu Miantai noticed how beautiful his narrow eyes were.
After that day, she could no longer treat him coldly.
Once she recovered, she sent Guan Xianqing a breakup message.
He refused to accept it, of course. A string of questions and calls bombarded Xu Miantai's already sluggish phone. When he couldn't reach her, he came to confront her in person.
The cheap rental room was neither warm nor soundproof. Xu Miantai was grabbed by the sleeve and forced to listen to his apologies, while a crowd gathered to watch.
Guan Xianqing's wounded pride made him lash out, accusing her of making a scene over nothing.
Xu Miantai was as cold-hearted as he said. Without a second thought, she turned to shut the door.
Guan Xianqing reached out to grab her, but a hand shot out from behind and stopped him.
Lin Shuanghong wore a slight smile, but his eyes were exceptionally cold. "Didn't you hear her say it's over?"
Guan Xianqing was furious and demanded to know what this had to do with Lin Shuanghong.
Before Lin Shuanghong could answer, Xu Miantai pulled him inside. Outside, Guan Xianqing's face flushed red as he shouted angrily.
But Xu Miantai had no time for him. Lin Shuanghong had her backed against the door, questioning her: "So, what are we to each other?"
Xu Miantai was a little dazed too. Not long ago, she and Lin Shuanghong had unexpectedly shared a scorching kiss.
