In her previous life, Duan Yun was the daughter of a wealthy family. A scumbag boyfriend hit her with his car and left her in a vegetative state, then took her entire inheritance.
When she opens her eyes again, she's become Duan Qiaoyun, a sixteen-year-old country girl. From the start, her uncle sells her for eight taels of silver to an old man on the verge of death, hoping she'll bring him good luck. She grabs a broom and chases the matchmaker out on the spot. Even with half her face smeared with blood, she refuses to back down.
Before she can catch her breath, a chime rings in her head: she's been bound to a Favorability System. If she can win over the village's twenty-one-year-old hunter and get his favorability to 100, she can return to the modern world and tear that scumbag to pieces.
Full of determination, Duan Yun gets to work.
Daily tasks: Hold hands three times, +1. Hug for thirty seconds, +2. She figures it won't be hard. So she waits around every day for a chance encounter, comes up with all sorts of excuses to bump his arm or brush against his sleeve, and does everything she can to rack up favorability.
But this man's tongue is even sharper than hers. She takes one step closer, and he deftly steps half a pace back. She thinks he's simple and easy to fool, but he sees right through her little schemes.
Duan Yun grits her teeth. Fine, I'll put up with it. Once I have enough points to go back and tear that scumbag to pieces, who'll care about bickering with you?
Later, he has someone leave a bundle of herbs for stopping bleeding by her pillow, without even showing his face. Later still, when a village thug causes trouble, he steps in front of her without a word. His profile is stern, his voice even: "Move aside."
Standing behind him with her fingers clutching her sleeve, Duan Yun suddenly feels that something inside her isn't quite right.
When she finally gets his favorability to 100, the System displays the option to return. Looking at the bundle of herbs by her bed, long since dried out, she hesitates.
Should she go back?
The twenty-one-year-old hunter stands at the kitchen doorway and adds another spoonful of porridge to her bowl without looking up. "What are you spacing out for? Eat."
Duan Yun picks up her bowl, steam rising into her face.
Whatever. I'll eat first.
[A Little Scene]
One morning
Duan Yun squats by the kitchen doorway, shelling beans. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Lu Wangshan passing through the courtyard. An idea strikes her. She stands, dusts off her skirt, and casually walks toward him.
As they pass each other, she deliberately brushes her fingertips across the back of his hand.
The System doesn't chime.
Duan Yun: ?
She brushes him again, then lightly hooks her little finger around his.
The System still doesn't chime.
Duan Yun can't help looking up at him. "You..."
Lu Wangshan looks down at the finger hooked around his little finger and raises an eyebrow. "You keep touching me and glaring at me. What exactly are you trying to do?"
Duan Yun's ears burn. She snatches her hand back. "I didn't touch you. I was just passing by."
"Passing by?" Lu Wangshan turns the back of his hand over for her to see. It still holds a trace of warmth from her palm. "And you just happened to pass by and brush against me twice more?"
Duan Yun opens her mouth to snap back, but he suddenly steps half a pace closer and looks down at her, a hint of amusement in his voice. "That's three times today. I let the first two slide. Does the third one count?"
Duan Yun's heart gives a thump. How did he keep count? He was actually counting?
"What third time? I have no idea what you're talking about." She turns and walks away quickly, her ears bright red.
Lu Wangshan watches her storm off and doesn't follow. He only adds, unhurriedly, "Next time you want to touch me, just do it openly. I'm not going to dodge you.
