Her father was disabled, her mother was ill, and after finally finishing school and starting work, she had become capable of supporting the family. Then one car accident destroyed it all.
The good news was that she hadn't died. The bad news was that she couldn't go back.
Li Shuwang gazed at the unfamiliar surroundings, ready to die, when a voice called out and brought her back to her senses.
"Do you want to save your parents?"
Li Shu had read plenty of novels, so she calmly asked the voice, "System?"
The voice didn't answer. Instead, it said, "Bind yourself to me, and I can save your parents and give them a happy life free from illness and misfortune."
"What's the price?"
"Do work for me. I'm a scammer System, and I need power. You help me trick people, and I'll save your parents."
Li Shu agreed without a moment's thought. She was already dead, after all. If she failed, she'd simply die once more. But if she succeeded, her parents could be saved. It was worth the gamble.
She got right to it, disguising herself as all sorts of people and making her way around Chang'an.
Word had it that a new fortune-teller had arrived on Chang'an Street. He was young and handsome, but as for his fortune-telling skills...
A new collection of biographies had recently become popular in Chang'an. The characters' descriptions bore a striking resemblance to the young masters and ladies of the great clans, but the buyer was an odd one: an old matron...
While busy conning people, she also had to deal with her ambitious half-sister.
And the most infuriating part was that she'd only just learned that the most debauched, idle, and universally detested good-for-nothing playboy in all Chang'an was her husband, bestowed upon her by imperial decree...
In the courtyard, Li Shu lay listlessly over the table and asked the System, "Can I return him? Without anyone dying, I mean."
