One night while working at a luxury hotel, Shi Buyan rescued a drunk gentleman.
The next day, Shi Buyan woke up on a messy king-size bed and locked eyes with the man. After seeing the marks all over the other's body, he silently covered his face.
Remembering the unusually strong scent of incense on the gentleman the night before, Shi Buyan realized the man had been set up. He stiffly climbed out of bed, picked up his clothes one by one, and put them on. Then, grief-stricken but resolute, he told the man on the bed, "Sir, I'll take responsibility."
It wasn't entirely his fault, but a real man had to own up to what he'd done.
Pei Jingyun glanced at his server's uniform and thought for a moment. "All right."
The next day, he dragged Shi Buyan, who had promised to take responsibility, off to register their marriage.
Shi Buyan: ?
Isn't this moving a little too fast?
-
After they married, Shi Buyan's life didn't seem to change much. He'd merely moved from a tiny rental into a huge villa downtown, and his five-digit savings had suddenly become seven digits.
Pei Jingyun put away his phone after making the transfer. "Since we're married, this is your allowance."
He needed a faithful, well-behaved partner, and this money was just right as payment to buy out Shi Buyan's claim on their marriage. He thought it was money well spent.
Shi Buyan stared in a daze at his new seven-digit savings. He hesitated, his innocent mind teetering on the edge, but in the end his resolve held firm:
No, a real man can't live off his spouse!
My working life can't be corrupted by money!
-
Pei Jingyun knew their marriage had come about by accident. He just happened to need a stable relationship, and Shi Buyan happened to be a suitable candidate.
But gradually, Pei Jingyun realized that his little husband wasn't quite what he'd imagined.
Shi Buyan worked eight jobs a day, leaving early and returning late. At first, Pei Jingyun thought he was supporting a poor family, but then he learned that Shi Buyan had graduated from a prestigious university and was generous with his friends. He didn't seem short of money at all.
Shi Buyan rarely mentioned his parents or older brother. Pei Jingyun assumed his family treated him badly, until at a wealthy family's banquet, he saw a familiar face being introduced by the host, the head of the family, as his youngest son, who rarely made public appearances.
Just last night, this man had held him and whispered sweet nothings in his ear. Beneath Pei Jingyun's suit were the ambiguous marks Shi Buyan had left by biting him.
Pei Jingyun: ...
Now that his identity was exposed, Shi Buyan tugged at Pei Jingyun's jacket and squeezed out two aggrieved tears. "Honey, I was wrong."
