During the summer break of his junior year, Ling Yu signed up for an outrageously expensive small-group tour, a gift to himself for the final journey of his life.
Ling Yu kept a comfortable distance from everyone in the group. He took part in every group activity, helped mediate when people argued, and laughed and joked along with them. But once the fun was over, he was always alone.
Everyone had the same impression of Ling Yu: a distant, but gentle person.
Everyone, that is, except Zhong Zeyan, the youngest member of the group.
From the moment they met, Ling Yu treated him differently from everyone else.
Zhong Zeyan had received too much kindness before, so he assumed Ling Yu's was just a passing impulse. After all, to Ling Yu, he was simply someone he'd happened to meet on a trip. How long could that kindness possibly last?
Only when they stood atop a mountain in the bitter wind, and Ling Yu left him with his usual distant smile and the words, “Goodbye, Zhong Zeyan,” did he realize how precious that kindness had been.
A week after returning to campus, Ling Yu broke up with his boyfriend.
As he walked out of the cafe, Zhong Zeyan, who had been waiting for ages, took off his baseball cap and forcefully pulled the wary Ling Yu into his arms.
He breathed in Ling Yu's familiar scent with longing. “Big sister, it's been so long.”
