Black-hearted loyal puppy Chen Yin × beautiful, tragic deity Li Nian
Li Nian has two defining traits: she’s incredibly tough, able to bounce back as if nothing happened even after being struck by rolling thunderbolts; and she has a noble status as a deity from ancient times.
Unfortunately, she’s acquired a new trait: she’s not very bright... (How did that happen? Probably got struck by lightning!)
In her dreams, she is always wrapped in a strange black mist, surrounded by blazing flames that consume charred wood and dried bones, while an eight-hundred-mile marsh lies silent.
She can’t remember what happened there. Both her dream-self and her waking self are completely bewildered.
Stranger still, after she accidentally rescues a group of little spirits, she meets a bizarre man who acts far too familiar with her. Then a series of strange things happen:
She strangely encounters Zhi Wang, strangely breaks the spiritual artifact that holds him, and strangely feels that he looks familiar.
More importantly, she strangely gets saddled with a huge load of blame!
“Your chicken went missing, so why are you blaming me?! Couldn’t a weasel have stolen it?”
“I didn’t collapse your house! It fell down because you hadn’t repaired it in ages!”
To figure out why she’s not very bright (she isn’t, really), Li Nian has no choice but to set out with Chen Yin, who volunteers to accompany her (and clings to her to keep her from running off), to find out what’s wrong with her brain and who’s ruining her reputation!
Rushing ahead in a fury, Li Nian doesn’t notice Chen Yin behind her, gazing at her intently with cold stars glimmering in his eyes. “Xiao Nian, stay by my side. Don’t go anywhere, all right?”
One-on-one romance, both leads are each other’s only partners, both identities are revealed later.
My new novel, "Trapped in a Perilous City", is now available!
Xuan Yian is an ill-omened woman said to bring death to her father, mother, and younger brother. To dispel the curse, her father follows the advice of his second wife and confines her at the garden outside the city for seven years. He only brings her back on the Lantern Festival, when she’s old enough to be married.
Marriage proposals pile up on her desk, but they’re all from mediocre, useless men. Not one is worth considering.
Yue Pei tosses the proposals from hand to hand. “Looks like no one but me is willing to marry an ill-omened woman like you.”
Xuan Yian smiles faintly. “Compared with those lowlifes, you seem to have a pretty good idea of your own worth.”
Yue Pei scoffs. “So, are you marrying me or not?”
The next day, the Prince of An’s marriage proposal and betrothal gifts arrive at the Chancellor’s residence, along with an imperial decree ordering the marriage.
The capital erupts in an uproar:
The King of Hell is marrying an ill-omened woman? His Majesty is truly brilliant!
*
The capital hasn’t been very peaceful lately.
First, people mysteriously die. Then the official investigating the case, the head of the Court of Judicial Review, dies inexplicably at home. Finally, when Madam Xuan of the Chancellor’s residence takes her own life, all the strange incidents abruptly cease, and the capital falls quiet for a long while.
Everyone says it’s all because of that ill-omened woman from the Xuan household, now the Princess of An.
The strange incidents in the capital all began after she returned.
Yue Pei is the orphaned son of the previous dynasty’s crown prince. He had hoped to eat, drink, and while away his days as an idle prince, but he remains a thorn in other people’s sides.
He wonders if he’s been too idle, making them think that idleness is all he’s capable of.
Yue Pei realizes that his little princess is connected to the strange incidents happening in the capital. If that’s the case, he doesn’t mind giving her a hand.
After everything is settled, Prince An sits alone in the main hall and rubs his temples, troubled. Has he not treated his princess well? How did he end up with such an ungrateful woman?
He glances at the divorce agreement in Xuan Yian’s hand and, suppressing his anger, gently coaxes her. “Be good. Throw it away, all right?”
Xuan Yian shakes her head without a word.
Yue Pei’s gaze darkens. He hooks a finger around the white jade cicada hanging from her waist and pulls her into his arms. His expression turns sinister as he grits out, “Princess, did you plan to use me as a pawn and then throw me away?”
“Too bad. You can’t go anywhere but stay by my side.”
One-on-one romance, both leads are each other’s only partners, happy ending.
