[Coming soon: The Tang Dynasty Coroner in Hong Kong [The 1980s]. The blurb is at the very bottom. Please add it to your favorites!]
Blurb: Jiang Baoyi, who had long been stuck on the bench, is transferred to the Major Crimes Unit.
The rest of the team are even more outrageous: one gets caught playing video games during meetings, one makes a complete mess of the case files, and the last is built like a bull but faints at the sight of blood.
The police force clearly considers them trash and is ready to toss them all out!
Bad news: Jiang Baoyi faints the first time she investigates a crime scene.
Good news: Strange images flash through her mind: a baffling code, fragrant char siu, two eerie screams... They seem to have nothing to do with the case, but turn out to be crucial clues left for her by the victim!
In just a few days, every major case is solved: the dismemberment at Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, the double murder at Eagle's Nest Hill, the floating body in the typhoon shelter...
Overnight, Jiang Baoyi goes from police department deadweight to a crime-busting genius, solving one bizarre case after another and becoming the most sought-after detective in the force!
Duan Chengfeng, a forensic lab analyst, takes an instant dislike to Jiang Baoyi. She's obviously a rich girl who joined the police force to pad her resume. How could someone like her deserve the hard work his forensic colleagues put into finding evidence?
A year later, Star News Pursuit runs a feature on the ace detective. While gathering information, a reporter interviews those close to Jiang Baoyi: "Inspector Duan, we hear you're Madam Jiang's boyfriend. Can you tell us what your first impression of her was?"
Facing the camera, Duan Chengfeng answers without batting an eye: "I fell in love with Madam Jiang at first sight."
[Inner Monologue Mini-Scene]:
What a ridiculous mess! I offended the head of the forensic lab on my first day, but after we solved a case, I heard him secretly praising me to his subordinates as a genius detective. Who knew he acted like a playboy but was actually a lovesick innocent? After a one-night stand, he even begged me for a proper relationship. Say no? I can't! I still need him to do the grunt work of analyzing evidence. Say yes? I can't! I'm only after his face and eight-pack abs. I don't want to tie myself down for life yet. What am I supposed to do?
[One-Line Mini-Scene 1]
He knows she's only sweet to him when she needs something, and just calls him Duan Chengfeng when she doesn't. Still, he falls for her all on his own, willingly becoming her devoted admirer.
[Mini-Scene] Jiang Baoyi's bedroom
After their passionate night, Duan Chengfeng blushes. "Are we dating now?"
Jiang Baoyi shakes her head. "No."
Duan Chengfeng: "Why not?"
Jiang Baoyi: "Did I seduce you last night? Have I ever been nice to you? Didn't I make it perfectly clear that I don't want a relationship right now?"
[One-Line Mini-Scene 2]
A refined but ruthless lawyer, a strapping and handsome fire captain, a debonair movie star... Why does he have so many rivals?

Coming Soon: The Tang Dynasty Coroner in Hong Kong [The 1980s]
Tang Dynasty coroner Cen Baozhu opens her eyes and finds herself in the body of a Hong Kong forensic doctor.
She has no ability to speak with the dead, no System, no pocket dimension... Only the autopsy techniques her mother taught her, all of them hopelessly old-fashioned methods like "boiling bones in the rain" and "examining bones with a red umbrella."
Her superior reads her report and laughs in exasperation. "Do you even know what DNA testing is?"
Cen Baozhu answers with complete seriousness: "What is a 'daddy and mommy' test?"
Her superior waves a hand. "From now on, you're in charge of cleaning the morgue."
Then one day, a member of the Hong Kong University art society dies suddenly.
No external injuries, no signs of suffocation, and every common poison test comes back negative!
Her superior makes the call: "Natural causes. Case closed!"
But Cen Baozhu, passing by the autopsy table while cleaning, stares at the dead person's gums. There is a thread-thin blue-gray line there.
Her mother's words flash through her mind: "Those poisoned by buttercups develop gray-blue gums. Boil their stomach in vinegar, and the indigo will glow like a ghost fire."
Cen Baozhu drops her broom, grabs the victim's stomach, and tosses it into a pot.
Her superior cries out, "Have you gone mad?!"
Ten minutes later, her superior exclaims, "Cen Baozhu, you're a genius!"
Cen Baozhu calmly replies, "This plant is from out of town. Whoever in the art society has a garden and a background in Chinese herbal medicine is the culprit. Arrest them!"
Theme: Never jump to conclusions.
