[I've been short on inspiration lately, so I'm taking a break from this one.]
Feng Yao is a moderately well-known blogger who loves to travel.
One day, she goes to stay at a countryside bed-and-breakfast. She spots a little black snake watching her from a distance, and for some reason, she suddenly wants to take it home. But before she can even take a step, the snake darts into the grass and disappears.
That night, as thunder crashes and rain pours, Feng Yao hears a knock at the door. She assumes it's room service, but when she opens it, she finds the weak little black snake. The comments all say the snake might be venomous and she should leave it alone.
Feng Yao can't bear to, and saves it anyway.
The black snake has pitch-black scales and crimson eyes. Anyone who sees it has to wonder: how can a snake be this beautiful?
People online say she's too softhearted for rescuing a snake that might be venomous, as if she'd never heard the story of the farmer and the snake.
After nursing the black snake back to health, Feng Yao takes it into the wild and releases it.
When she gets home, she finds a new neighbor has moved in next door: a cool, aloof beauty with black hair and black eyes. She's exactly Feng Yao's type, so Feng Yao works up the nerve to ask for her contact information.
They exchange contact details, and Feng Yao learns the beautiful woman's name is Qiu Yutong. Their conversations grow more and more lively, and Feng Yao wants to share everything with her.
But then, one day, Feng Yao is kidnapped by something called an evil spirit. Her worldview, built over 24 years, crumbles when she realizes her kidnapper isn't human. She figures no one can save her from this supernatural phenomenon.
She thinks of how she's been single for 24 years and has finally found someone she likes, only to be about to die before she can confess. What a failure of a life.
As she lets her thoughts run wild, she hears a familiar voice. Looking up, she sees Qiu Yutong, with a human body and a snake's tail, effortlessly dispatching the evil spirit like a goddess descending from the heavens.
The more Feng Yao looks at her, the more familiar she seems. Could she be the little black snake Feng Yao saved before? Is this her way of repaying the favor?
After dealing with the evil spirit, Qiu Yutong sways her snake tail as she walks toward Feng Yao. "You saved my life, so I should repay you by giving myself to you."
"Yao Yao, what do you think?"
Feng Yao takes it in stride and quickly gets used to the fact that her wife isn't human.
But later, she's told that she isn't human either.
Feng Yao: "...What? Seriously?"
Reading Guide:
1. Modern alternate setting, with some original worldbuilding. Streaming and variety shows don't take up much of the story. I'll do my best to make the logic work.
