Cheng Xiangxue turned to look. The boy had cold eyes and thin lips, and met her gaze. She murmured, "Don't bother looking. He's definitely a playboy, and his grades are probably as bad as mine."
Sheng Yisong overheard her, and her words became the unspoken source of tension between them.
At a major exam, Sheng Yisong ranked first in the entire grade, completely shattering Cheng Xiangxue's assumptions. One after another, the boys and girls in their class began asking the top student for help with problems.
One day after school, when the classroom was empty, Cheng Xiangxue grinned and asked Sheng Yisong for help with a math problem. He raised an indifferent eyebrow, his gaze falling on the score on her test paper. "What, don't think my grades are bad anymore?"

After they entered university, Cheng Xiangxue often organized activities with the class president and went straight to him with difficult questions about their major, too. One night, Sheng Yisong cornered her in the teaching building and demanded in a low voice, "Am I no longer useful to you? You turned around and went to someone else?"

At some point, whenever other classmates asked Sheng Yisong for help with difficult problems, he did his best to remain patient and calm, then habitually glanced at Cheng Xiangxue. Seeing her unmoved, he grew anxious and doubtful. Was his expression too stern? Her math score was so low, so why hadn't she come to him yet?

Bonus scene:
At the start of sophomore year, Cheng Xiangxue showed up on campus with pink hair. When her father found out, he angrily dragged her to a salon and had it dyed black again.
Cheng Xiangxue spent the whole day fuming and paying no attention in class. On her blank sheet of paper, she wrote just one sentence: I swear, I'm going to dye my hair pink and strut all around school!
The following winter, Sheng Yisong asked her to come out for a study session, but she saw that his brown hair had turned pink.
She pointed at him in shock and swallowed a mouthful of cold air.
"What's wrong? Is the color off?" Sheng Yisong glanced at her.
Cheng Xiangxue: "Have you gone stupid, or are you turning bad? How can the top student dye his hair? And it's pink, of all colors!"
"You don't like... pink?" He stood straight in the cold wind.
The wind stung Cheng Xiangxue's eyes. She looked at the pink strands fluttering in the breeze and smiled. "I like it."
