"In half an hour, a never-before-observed meteor shower will streak across the sky above Sumeru."
When Kaveh heard the news, he had just finished bathing. Still a little dazed, he listened to Alhaitham, then saw him to the door with some reluctance and told him to come back soon.
That night, Kaveh took a photo of the meteors streaking across the sky and put it on the wall. Before going to sleep, he remembered that Alhaitham still owed him a goodnight kiss.
In the middle of the night, Alhaitham pulled him into his arms. Half asleep, Kaveh nuzzled against him, but the kiss never came.
The next morning, then noon, and all the way into the afternoon, more than ten hours passed. Alhaitham, who had never been stingy with hugs and kisses, remained unmoved. Only then did Kaveh use the daylight to take a close look at his lover.
The same eyes and hair, the same nose and lips. But why were those eyes filled with sorrow, so unfamiliar and mournful?
After that meteor shower ended, Alhaitham seemed like a different person. He had forgotten everything beautiful, and being with Kaveh felt like both a reunion and a first meeting.
The food he made turned out wrong, he didn't take Kaveh's hand, and he couldn't answer his questions. Alhaitham even forgot that they had arranged to watch the fireworks together that night.
And yet Alhaitham's guilt and love seemed to have opened a hole in his heart, pouring endlessly from his lips like a spring.
"I love you. Do you know that?"
Kaveh could only find Alhaitham's words unbelievable, impossible to accept.
That night, Alhaitham asked him many times, and each time Kaveh nodded and said he knew.
But at some point the next day, Kaveh suddenly remembered Alhaitham's final answer.
Alhaitham had said, "You don't know."
