Song Yu was just one step away from winning the Ashton Journalism Award. He spent the first ten years of his career working himself to the bone, only to have his own mentor accuse him of plagiarism, sending his career into a tailspin.
Song Yu: “I'm done busting my ass.”
He quit his job, let everything go, and went alone to the grasslands of Inner Mongolia to watch the great animal migration.
Not long after getting off the plane, he somehow ran into He Shiting. What were they to each other? One of their high school classmates, who knew them both, commented: “Put the two of them on the same layer and they still get in each other's way.”
After years apart, He Shiting had become a respectable human being, an entrepreneur investing in impoverished regions.
Translation: Even his every hair is a strong bro.
He hadn't run into his nemesis at his lowest point, but his nemesis had made it big.
Song Yu couldn't help cursing inwardly: Who the hell is putting a curse on me?
What he hadn't expected was that He Shiting would be the very picture of a gentleman.
“Are you here on vacation? The Ewenki Deer Tribe is migrating its reindeer over the next few days. I've booked an off-road vehicle.”
Song Yu's mind was full of “This is bizarre.” Without thinking, he spoke to He Shiting in the soothing, sympathetic tone one might use with a terminally ill patient. “You... are you really yourself?”
He Shiting: “Even if I look like an idiot when I keep my mouth shut, that's still better than opening it and making people certain.”
Song Yu: “...” ?
One night.
Song Yu and He Shiting were sitting in a camper van. Song Yu was sorting through the photos on his camera.
He Shiting calmly and elegantly brushed imaginary stains off his clothes. Out of the corner of his eye, he “accidentally” spotted a photo. “Were you taking pictures of me?”
Song Yu answered coldly, “I got you by accident. You're the one who kept wandering around.”
Without hesitation, he deleted the photo in front of him, ready to fire back at any moment.
He Shiting's Adam's apple bobbed. “Oh. Then could you take a picture of me?”
I'll say it again: this is bizarre! October 23, evening, from “Nonsense,” by Song Yu
