A calculating, scheming Crown Prince of the Immortal Realm x a beautiful, unhinged princess of the Demon Realm
Wei Yin is a princess of the Demon Realm, but she has no talent for cultivation and is considered a "good-for-nothing." The only thing she can do in this life is represent the Demon Realm in a political marriage with the Immortal Realm. But the Crown Prince Yicang, her betrothed whom she's secretly loved for years, doesn't think much of her at all.
Wei Yin goes to her wedding full of joy, only to be sent back in disgrace. To prevent a war between the two realms, the Immortal Realm demotes her shortsighted betrothed to the mortal world to undergo three lifetimes of tribulations. This also throws the Immortal Realm's original plan into disarray.
At first, the Immortal Emperor planned to destabilize the mortal world, then send Yicang down to restore order, earn merit, and smoothly inherit the throne. But now, to accommodate Yicang's tribulations, they have no choice but to stretch the chaos in the mortal world out for a hundred years.
In the final life of Yicang's tribulations, Wei Yin is also sent to the mortal world to restore her spiritual roots. The two meet again through another political marriage. This time, both are caught up in the mortal world's turmoil and have no say in their own fates. Although they fall for each other, they still have to fight for what each of them originally set out to do.
Later, Wei Yin discovers that the source of all the suffering in the mortal world was, in fact, to clear the way for Yicang.
She points her long sword at the sky and demands, "Does being above everyone else give the Immortal Realm the right to humiliate all living beings at will? To treat people like ants and dogs? Today, I will fight you and see who can stop me!"
Looking at Wei Yin amid a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood, Yicang is moved despite himself. "Wei Yin, put down your sword and come to my side. I promise I won't kill you."
"What a joke!" Wei Yin sneers. "I'd rather die fighting today than surrender. Even if all that's left of me is a drop of blood, I'll turn this world upside down!"
So, is the mortal world ultimately just a proving ground? Who will it destroy, and who will it help rise?
