My 10,086th Application to Pilot a Mecha Was Rejected

Xu An is famous at the base for three things:

First, the highest ability-awakening score in the entire base.

Second, tearing off a mutated creature’s head with one hand.

Third, being an utterly terrible mecha pilot.

Before the last two things came to light, Xu An was an industrious but forgettable nobody who washed mechas at the base. Then one day, the strongest squad, A061, encountered a beast tide while on a ground mission. The mutated creatures had evolved at an absurd rate, allowing them to launch psychic attacks on a massive scale.

An endless sea of yellow sand surged in with the overwhelming psychic assault. As the members of Squad A061 watched in despair while their last mechanic was swept into the storm, the useless nobody they knew casually patted the captain on the shoulder.

"Be good and move aside."

The next second, as the entire squad stared in stunned silence, Xu An snatched up a dagger and fought her way through the horde, rescuing the mechanic. Then she tore the head off a Level III threat with her bare hands.

The squad erupted in shrill screams.

The incident completely changed her teammates’ opinion of Xu An, and she finally got her hands on a military combat mecha, just...

The first time, Xu An sent the base gates flying three kilometers.

The second time, she blew up 66 training mechas.

The third time, she nearly jumped from a dizzying height with herself and her mecha both onboard.

Her teammates were in tears. "Next time, change Xu An’s facial-recognition permissions to AI autopilot!"

1. A lightly ensemble-focused story. The main cast is two women and two men.

2. All the settings are made up and have nothing to do with reality.

3. All four members of the main cast get their moments to shine. So far, five male characters have appeared and been named.

4. Xu An is always the main protagonist, but because her background is closely tied to later events, she’ll be kept out of sight early on, and the story will mostly show her from other characters’ perspectives. Make no mistake, Xu An is the absolute lead. As for the ending... As everyone knows, ensemble stories mean people die, and then more people die... She looked down. The man immediately put on a pitiful expression. A tiny mole on his chest was just visible beneath his deep V-neck, and he pleaded, calling her big sister.

As far as she knew, he had just tried to kill her.

Lu Zhao remained calm. "What are those aircraft in the sky?"

The man: ???

Only after the man explained did Lu Zhao learn that the people piloting those aircraft were coming to arrest them both. They wanted her because the lightning had blown up this entire mecha base, and they wanted him because he was a notorious fugitive.

Lu Zhao gave a soft laugh. Mechas? They were just hunks of metal. This was right up her alley.

So Lu Zhao, who had always believed in keeping the peace, immediately took the man by the hand and presented him to the patrol officers. "The criminal is right here. Also, I will repair this place within a month as compensation."

The patrol officers looked from one to the other. "Aren’t you two married?"
