In the future, an all-out nuclear war turns Earth into a wasteland. The surface is contaminated by deadly radiation, mutant creatures roam everywhere, and resources are desperately scarce. Amid the chaos, humanity establishes bases, but even then, conflict never ceases. One human base after another falls, and everyone begins fleeing to Human Base HF59119. It is more than just a base: it is a utopia in this shattered world.
Sui He is an “ordinary” survivor. Abandoned by his teammates, he wanders the ravaged world alone with a blade, searching for a human base.
One day, on the rooftop of a ruined building, he meets a man from a human base. But he thinks meeting him was a mistake. With a single grenade, the man blew up more than a month’s worth of his food stores. He was bankrupt.
Feeling wronged, Sui He knocks the man unconscious with a brick.
“I’ve never eaten one of my own kind, but I’ve seen other survivors do it. They say male meat is rather tough and needs to be stewed in a big iron pot for several hours.”
The man, hanging upside down from a tree, reassures him: “I’ll pay you back. When we get to the base, I’ll give you two warehouses’ worth.”
“Really?”

For the sake of two warehouses of food, Sui He follows the man. After arriving at Human Base HF59119, he still thinks the same thing: meeting him was a mistake. But he has no regrets.
“HF” stands for Hope Fortress. Hailed as the “Fortress of Hope,” it is hope, a utopia, and also despair.
