Wen Wannian and Pei Yanzhi met once as children. In high school, Wen Wannian met Pei Yanzhi and Xu Luo of Qiming at a school speech event. Xu Luo was assigned to the same class as Wen Wannian, while Pei Yanzhi was a year ahead of them. Qiming was assigned to another class. The group spent their days playing around together until the time came to part ways and get busy with their own lives. Gradually, Wen Wannian and Pei Yanzhi drifted apart. Then Pei Yanzhi quietly returned for Wen Wannian's university banquet, and the knot in her heart finally came undone. When Wen Wannian graduated, Pei Yanzhi confessed his feelings to her. Not long afterward, he died because his stomach illness had gone untreated for too long. Unable to accept reality, Wen Wannian suffered a psychological blow, fell into a coma, and became a vegetable.
