A Gotham Graduate Student, but Make It Homeless

[Next up: [Western Crossover] Is the Server Working in the Service Area Today? Pairing: Jason Todd. The second installment in the Runaway series. Blurb at the bottom. ID 9654482] [Complete. First-person, chatty little sweet treat with an everyday feel. Bonus chapters have a 90% subscription rate and are slowly being written.] Good news: I got into grad school. Bad news: It's Gotham University. So I boarded a plane to Gotham and got hijacked. I was still so naive back then. I excitedly took eighteen consecutive photos of Superman coming to the rescue. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of my miserable master's degree. Month one: Blackgate Prison riot, Ratcatcher escaped. Screaming, I grabbed a broom and beat the seventh giant gray rat to break into my apartment. Then I turned around and came face to face with a Gotham-style bodysuit guy passing by. Me: Oh, you're... Robin! (Certain) Him: Red Robin. Month one: Poison Ivy returned to her alma mater, plants ran amok. I dragged back the biology students who were trying to dissect Ivy's precious plants, then looked up and met the eyes of a little bird wrapped up in vines. Me: Sorry, I'll be going, Him: Mmph! (Get out of here!) Me (hesitating) (pausing) (making a grim face): Someone get me some weed killer! Month one (why is it still month one?): The Joker causes trouble. I was fine as a hostage, but my school and advisor were gone. Me: ... Me: … I'm gonna kill the Joker! Aaaaaah! Red Robin: Don't! Aaaaaah! My new advisor adopted me. Thank you, Professor! My advisor's bald but kindhearted! But our school was gone, so we were sent to other universities to keep studying... Do we have to do a master's too??? Hello, yes, you have to get a PhD too. The runaway fishies put on a stellar show! First stop: Bludhaven University. Criminal riot, classes canceled. Second stop: Empire University. Alien invasion, classes canceled. Third stop: Metropolis University. Superman injured in battle, classes canceled. Fourth stop: Caltech. No criminals, no aliens, nothing at all. It's a normal school... But help! This professor who looks like C-3PO is so weird! Me: I really want to go home. It's not like I have to get this degree. But what's with this Wayne family adopted son who keeps wandering around with me? I look at him suspiciously: Aren't you in the finance department? The handsome college student whose name is Duckie smiles shyly: I'm here to learn. * First-person narration, paired with Red Robin. Some age adjustments, older woman/younger man. * A gag story. Apologies for the OOC characterization. The heroine has a deadly amount of snark and a wildly overactive imagination. Apologies to everyone and everything. * Mainly DC, with some The Big Bang Theory, MCU, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, and a little more. Click to see. No original-story plotlines. The timelines are blended, so please don't scrutinize the details. * The heroine is an ordinary person with a good brain. At her best, she can kill a cockroach; at worst, she can smack a rat. (She's stronger than the nerds in The Big Bang Theory. Don't expect more.) * She'll get her PhD too, hehe. Good news: I was reincarnated in another world, and I brought a System with me. Bad news: It's Gotham. Worse news: It's a gig worker System. Even worse news (is there more?): I was locked into the “server” branch when choosing my gig worker type. Me: Some people would be better off dead. Just kidding. If you can stay alive, don't die. I started working as the System instructed. According to the System, as long as I became “outstanding” at being a server, I would prove that I could survive on my own and be able to disconnect from the System. But I lost my first job at McDonald's because Red Hood fought Professor Pyg. I lost my second job at Domino's because Red Hood fought a Black Mask cyborg. I lost my third job at the Iceberg Lounge after Red Hood moved in... Huh? He didn't fire me? But the Penguin sent me packing. Unemployed! I decided to stay away from Red Hood and head to other cities to find a way to make a living. In New York, I learned that a successful server needs to be good at snark and slacking off. In Pasadena, I learned to be patient. In Central City, I learned to move at the speed of lightning (?). In Metropolis, I learned to take photos of Superman and submit them to the papers for extra cash (??). Before things got even stranger, I returned to Gotham. Come on! I cheered myself on. If you fall somewhere, get back up there. I will become the king of Gotham's servers! The sushi restaurant where I worked got wrecked again because of Red Hood. I'm gonna kill Red Hood! Theme: As long as you're alive, good things can still happen
