A smiling schemer and love trickster heroine VS a truly innocent noble heir / her sinister, ghostly ex-husband / a distant, high-ranking minister
Those who are willing will take the bait

On the day Zou Jiyi married, her husband disappeared, his fate unknown.
The guests in attendance either mocked her or pitied her. Every one of them treated her as a laughingstock.
Some felt sorry for her bad luck. Born of humble origins and unable to remarry, she would have to spend the rest of her life mourning her dissolute, reckless husband, even though he had died in such an undignified way.
Zou Jiyi pretended she couldn’t hear the gossip outside. Even when people brought it up to her face, she wept bitterly, appearing to remain deeply devoted to her late husband.
Then, at midnight on the seventh day after Zou Jiyi married into the Li family,
her dead husband returned beneath the dark night sky.
Inside the room, her ghost of a husband nuzzled against her, his expression full of longing, yet every word was steeped in grief and bitterness.
Outside, amid the silence of the night, the shadow of a young gentleman fell across the door and windows, his presence flickering in and out along with his voice.
The ghost bit Zou Jiyi’s earlobe. The sharp pain made her draw a sharp breath.
“You told me to seek peace in the next life and not to dwell on the unfinished ties of this one. So there really is someone waiting to take my place.”
Zou Jiyi tugged the scarlet puppet strings in her hand, pulling her ghostly husband off her.
“That’s not right, husband. If we’re talking about who came first, you’re the one who should be waiting outside the door.”
The Li family’s once-charming eldest son born of a concubine twisted into a mask of jealousy and fury. At Zou Jiyi’s fingertips, he turned into a wisp of smoke and was forced back into the puppet.
Holding him in her arms, Zou Jiyi opened the door, dressed in nothing but a gauzy robe.
What a coincidence: the man waiting outside was another lovesick son of the Li family, one who had waited years for her.
